🚭 Have Your Say on Stop Smoking Support in Blackburn with Darwen

The Public Health team is working with Healthwatch Blackburn with Darwen to better understand smoking behaviours across the borough.

Whether you've used a stop smoking service before or never accessed support, we want to hear about your experiences through our quick survey. Your feedback will help us understand what works well, identify any barriers that may prevent people from getting support, and shape future services to better meet local needs.

Know a woman who has been putting off having her cervical smear?

Please encourage her to visit the NHS Living Well bus while it’s at Blackburn college on Thursday. It will be parked up on Feilden Street between 11am and 4pm.

Appointments aren’t needed, making it a really convenient way to have the cervical screening test.

It takes less than 10 minutes and having the test in the safe, comfortable and private space on board the Living Well bus is a lot like having it in your GP practice, with female NHS staff.

Cervical screening has the potential to save lives – it tests for HPV (or human papillomavirus) which can cause cervical cancer, meaning treatment can be given before it can turn into cervical cancer.

This screening is available to women aged 25 to 64.

You can read more about cervical screening on board the NHS Living Well bus – click the link in below

🌻 Yesterday marked World Su***de Prevention Day 🌻

Walkers who set off from Darwen Market Place at 10am with banners featuring messages of hope arrived outside Blackburn Town Hall after 12pm, joining people who had gathered for the vigil and 40 second silence.

Speeches were given by guest speakers Margaret Jepson from Samaritans and Shigufta Khan from The Wish Centre alongside the Deputy Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen - Cllr Shaukat Hussain, Chief Executive Denise Park and Deputy Leader Cllr Julie Gunn.

The event was supported by a marketplace with various organisations highlighting the range of services available locally.

The event was a chance to show support, raise awareness, and remember those sadly lost to su***de.

Take a look at some of the photos from yesterday’s walk and vigil.

If you missed the event or are seeking support for yourself or someone else visit the link in the comments for a list of local services ready to help.
