🤱World Breastfeeding Week is here and while it’s a beautiful celebration for many, it can also be deeply triggering for others.

😞 Not everyone’s feeding journey is straightforward.
😞 Not everyone gets the support they deserved.
😞 And not everyone’s story ends the way they hoped.

If this week feels heavy for you, please know this:

🤗 You are not alone.
🤗 You are not failing.
🤗 You are not “less than” because your feeding journey looked different.

Some parents carry memories of pain, pressure, guilt, or grief. Some carry the weight of decisions made in exhaustion or fear.
Some carry trauma from birth, NICU stays, loss, or feeling unheard.
Some simply didn’t get the compassionate, evidence‑based support they needed.

Your experience matters.
Your feelings are valid.
Your baby is loved and that is what nourishes them most.

If this week brings up emotions, take what you need: space, quiet, connection, or support. And if you’re comfortable, share your story because every feeding journey deserves to be seen, honoured, and held with kindness.

We are here for the parents who celebrate, and equally for the parents who find this week hard. Your journey counts. Your voice counts. You count.

🖤 Black Baby Loss Awareness Week matters because Black families deserve more than awareness — they deserve equity, safety, and compassionate care that truly sees them

🖤 In the UK, the disparities remain stark:

🖤 Black women are 40% more likely to experience miscarriage (Tommy’s Miscarriage Research Centre).

🖤 Black babies are over twice as likely to be stillborn (MBRRACE‑UK 2023)

🖤 Black women are four times more likely to die during pregnancy or up to six weeks after birth (MBRRACE‑UK 2023).

🖤 Black families are less likely to be offered timely, culturally safe bereavement support (NHS Race & Health Observatory, 2022)

🖤 These differences are not biological — they are the result of systemic racism, bias, and inequality within maternity and healthcare systems.

🖤 This week, we honour the babies who should be here. We honour the parents who carry grief with courage. And we recommit to doing the work — in maternity care, in bereavement support, and in every space where Black voices have been silenced.

🖤 Black babies matter.
🖤 Black grief matters.
🖤 Black parents matter.
🖤 Their stories deserve to be heard, believed, and acted upon

started this movement and awareness - let's keep it going

☀️ A new week, a new chance to feel supported as you prepare for birth.

Mondays can feel a little full, a little foggy, or a little “right… where do I even start?” — and that’s completely okay. If birth prep has been sitting quietly on your mind, this is your little reminder from me that you don’t have to do it alone.

My antenatal and birth preparation sessions are here to help you take those small, steady steps towards feeling calmer, clearer and more confident.

Evidence‑based, midwife‑led, and designed to meet you exactly where you are — whether you’re feeling organised or overwhelmed.

If this is the week you want to feel a bit more supported then get in touch with any questions that you have- I love a good old chat!

Or pop along to my website and get booking!

💚 Perinatal Mental Health: What I Want You To Know

💚 One of the things I see so often in my work is how easily parents minimise their own feelings.

💚 They tell themselves “it’s just tiredness”, “everyone struggles”, or “I should be coping better by now.”

💚 But your mental health matters just as much as your physical health — and you deserve to feel supported, not overwhelmed or alone.

The have created a simple symptom checker, and as I read through it, I kept thinking: these are the things parents often think quietly… the things they’re scared to say out loud.

💚 So here’s what I want you to hear from me:
☹️ If your mood feels different in a way that doesn’t feel like you…
☹️ If you’re having thoughts that frighten you…
🙃 If bonding feels harder than you expected…
☹️ If sleep won’t come, even when your baby is finally resting… ☹️ If guilt, shame or hopelessness are sitting heavily on your chest…
☹️ If you’re worrying constantly about food, your body, or your worth as a parent…
☹️ If you’re seeing or hearing things that don’t feel right…

💚 Please don’t brush it off.
💚 Please don’t wait.
💚 Please don’t carry it alone.

You know yourself better than anyone. If something feels “off”, that’s enough of a reason to reach out — to your midwife, GP, health visitor, or someone you trust.

And if you ever feel distressed or unsafe, going straight to A&E is the right thing to do.

You are not failing. You are not alone. You deserve care, compassion, and to be heard.

🍃 Today is TFMR Awareness Day.

💔 A day that can feel heavy, complex and deeply personal. A day many avoid talking about because it’s a tricky, painful topic — but silence only leaves families feeling more alone.

🍃 As a midwife, I have walked alongside parents facing TFMR. I have seen the love, the courage, the devastation, and the impossible weight of a decision they never imagined they would have to make.

🍃 TFMR is not a “choice”. It is love in its most painful form. It is parents protecting their baby from suffering. It is heartbreak, compassion and bravery intertwined.

🍃 And something I want to say clearly today:

🍃 If TFMR is part of your story.... you ARE still a parent.
🍃 Your baby existed.
🍃 Your love existed and carries on existing
🍃 Your identity as a parent is real and valid — no matter how short your time together was, no matter how complicated the circumstances.

🍃 You are not alone. You are not judged here. Your baby matters. Your story matters. You matter.

🍃 Working in maternity care, I know how vital it is that families receive compassionate, stigma‑free support — not just today, but every day. No one should ever walk this path feeling silenced or misunderstood.

Today, I’m holding space for every family who has faced TFMR with quiet strength and immeasurable love.

💚 A gentle reminder this Bank Holiday weekend

💚 Maternity units are still open. 💚 Triage is still open. Your care does not pause because it’s a Bank Holiday.

💚 If something doesn’t feel right, please listen to yourself. Your instincts are valid. Your concerns are valid. You are valid.

💚 You know your body and your baby better than anyone else. If you notice reduced movements, new symptoms, changes that worry you, or you think labour may be starting — please contact your maternity unit. You will be listened to. You will be taken seriously. You deserve timely, compassionate care.

💚 And if you’d like more support understanding what’s normal, what’s not, and when to reach out, my antenatal sessions are here to help you feel informed, confident, and prepared — even on weekends like this.

💚 You’re not alone in this. You’re held. You’re supported. Always.
