FLU UPDATE :

The vaccination service have let us know about delays with letters being sent out this year.

✅ You still don't need to book anything. Just arrive on the day between 9am and 12pm for the walk-in service.

You can get the free NHS flu vaccine if you:

* are aged 65 or over

* are aged 18 to 64 and have certain long-term health conditions**

* are pregnant

* are the main carer for an older or disabled person and receive carer's allowance

* live with someone who has a weakened immune system

We have a modest number of pre-bookable appointments available over the next few days and coming weeks!

You can either request these over the phone, in-person or via the NHS Wales App. (There are a small but dedicated amount of appointments only available to book via the NHS Wales App)

** These are for Routine issues ONLY **

Anything urgent needs to be presented over the phone or in person at Reception.

Flu Season Is Almost Here!

✅ You don't need to contact the surgery to book anything.

If you're eligible for a flu vaccination, you will be identified by the Health Board Vaccination Service and sent a letter & texts inviting you to attend the surgery.

📅 Walk-in Clinics: 🗓️ Saturday 3rd October 🗓️ Saturday 17th October

⏰ Regardless of the time stated on your letter, our clinics operate on a first come, first served basis — just walk in on the day.

If you can't make the first two dates, don't worry, there will be more!

We're looking for a friendly, organised Medical Receptionist to join our team!

🕒 Hours: 16–20 hours per week 📅 Days: Monday to Friday ⏰ Shift window: Between 8:00am and 6:30pm (shifts to be agreed) 📍 Location: Pontllanfraith Health Centre

What you'll be doing:

Welcoming patients and managing appointments
Answering calls and handling enquiries with care and confidentiality
Supporting our clinical team with day-to-day administration
Helping patients navigate to the right service, first time

What we're looking for:

A calm, friendly manner and good communication skills
A team player who's reliable and adaptable
Previous customer service or reception experience is a plus, but not essential

Thanks to Dragon Medical (https://dragonmedical.uk/) for delivering crucial and mandatory Resuscitation training yesterday, keeping us all up-to-date on life saving processes in critical situations.

Move Better Gwent MSK

Move Better Gwent is the ABUHB MSK self-referral service that allows patients with bone, joint, or muscle concerns to access physiotherapy and related therapy support directly, without needing to see a GP first. Riverside's in-house First Contact Physiotherapist, Katie, is part of this pathway — her role is to assess MSK presentations and direct patients to the most appropriate treatment, rather than to provide ongoing hands-on therapy herself. Across Caerphilly, there is a concerted push to route suitable MSK problems through MBG Hub rather than GP appointments. They aim to assess and start treatment within 3 days of self-referral, and sometimes sooner.

Med review appointments will be going ahead from 3pm, where possible these will be conducted over the phone.

Second Reminder : Practice Closure for Staff Training – 19 August

📢 Our surgery will be closed on Wednesday 19 August, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, to allow our team to undertake essential training and continuing professional development.

🚨 If you need urgent medical assistance during these hours, an emergency contact number will be provided in our usual telephone message on the day.

📞 The surgery will reopen as usual from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding while our team undertakes this important training. 🩺

The practice will be closed on the 19th of August from 14:00pm to 17:00pm for training.

The surgery will reopen from 17:00 pm to 18:30pm as usual. (08:00am to 14:00pm is normal service, including Sit & Wait.)

There will be an emergency number to call in the case of an emergency during these hours, this number will be available by the standard phone message on the day.
