From April 2026, NHS dental services across Wales will be changing as part of a new contract introduced by the Welsh Government.

Here’s what this means for our NHS patients:

🦷 A greater focus on prevention
Your care will be tailored more closely to your individual oral health needs, with an increased emphasis on preventing problems before they start.

📅 Check-up intervals may change
Patients with healthy mouths may be invited for examinations less frequently, in line with national guidance.

⚠️ Priority based on clinical need
Appointments will be prioritised for patients with higher clinical needs to ensure those requiring more urgent or complex care are seen appropriately.

📉 Limited NHS capacity
As NHS funding is set nationally and remains limited, we may not be able to offer routine examinations as frequently as in the past.

🌐 New Dental Access Portal (DAP)
If you have not been seen under the NHS within the last three years, you will now need to access care through the new online Dental Access Portal.

Patients registering via the portal will be allocated to a dentist within the health board area based on availability — this may not necessarily be our practice.

These changes are being implemented nationally and are outside of our control. However, please be assured that our team remains fully committed to providing the highest standard of care and supporting our patients through this transition.
