Another seedy toe case growing out nicely. The first photo was taken in January and the second was taken yesterday. We will soon be at the stage where we can leave this without a patch on.

Talking of patches. The patch on this horse is using the 3rd millennium glue impregnated with copper sulphate. It is the copper sulphate that is the most important aspect as this keeps the hoof wall clean and healthy underneath the patch, whilst the patch as structural integrity back into the hoof.

This laminitic has come a long way in the last couple of shoeings. Consistent trimming protocol + added biomechanics through the shoeing package sets him up for success.

9 month transformation and a few different shoeing packages in between and we are nearly at the end of this seedy toe case. This horse has responded really well to treatment.

I will do a full post on this horse in the next coming days explaining treatment plan.

Sometimes we have to use different set ups to help the horses in our care.

Not every horse is a one size fits all and not every horse should be treated the same.

In all of these cases I have wanted to help the horse by loading through the solar surface of the hoof. However for some we have used nail on shoes and for others glue on.

For others we have used a full pad, others a half pad, for some, no pads.

Steel, plastic and aluminium have all been used as well.

Not every horse will fit the box that you think is the ideal and we must remember this when we are working with the amazing equine’s in our care.

To celebrate the end of farrier week here are a few action shots of me showing the lovely Enzo in the early morning Jersey sun.
foley_acpat.physio has come so far with this horse and it was great to see him riding along with beach later on in the evening under the expert tutelage of Simon Cocozza.

These little laminitic feet are coming on nicely and the horse has regained soundness, which is great to see.

Sometimes it’s important to leave foot on, sometimes it’s important to take it away and there will always be someone that would trim it differently šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Thanks to for sending me over a couple of pairs of the comfort sport over to try.

Here are the toe clipped fronts fitted to an ever developing hoof. Easy to fit and nail and I really like the fact that there is a slight roll to the toe and they are pre seated out. Overall a really nice shoe.

This horse had a deep sulcus that he was very sensitive with. We use a lot of products, but since sent me some of the deep thrush gel a little while ago this has become a solid part of our line up.

It’s easy to use for both farrier and client.

We have had a busy start to spring with work and myself getting to the end point of my DipHe at and as such have taken a small break from social media, but will be sharing some work again in the near future.

In the meantime here’s a little snippet, from squish pads, X-rays on a little laminitic that needed a bit of help, looking at the wear pattern on these (and then replacing as the horse is going well in them, to my artistic skills šŸ˜‚ it’s been busy.

Will be back to posting more soon in the mean time have a great weekend!
