NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly

NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly The integrated care board for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We are part of the wider Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care System.

Our job is to plan and buy health and care services for the people registered with GP practices in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. These services include planned hospital care, mental health and learning disability services, urgent and emergency care, children’s health services, community services, NHS 111, a GP out of hours service and some primary care services. This is a partnership of health and

care organisations who will work together to plan and deliver services and improve the health of people who live in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

For Obadiah, responsiveness is what sets WorkWell apart.

“If I’m ever unsure about anything, I just touch base with my coach,” he says. “The support is always prompt and quick.”

Having moved through several other support networks while trying to get back into employment, Obadiah noticed the difference straight away.

“The good thing about WorkWell is the speed and efficiency,” he says. “You’re helped when you actually need it.”

That timely support gave him confidence and momentum.

“The support has been outstanding,” he adds.

Dan spent years working as a farrier, but the physical wear and tear eventually forced him to stop.

“I couldn’t carry on,” he says. “And that really affected my mental health.”

With WorkWell, the focus shifted to possibilities. “The coaches were really helpful,” Dan explains. “They gave me ideas and helped me find a new direction.”

That led him to begin making ornaments and jewellery from old horseshoes. WorkWell supported him with training and equipment, helping turn creativity into a route back to work.
“It helped my mental health,” he says. “And it helped me get back into work.”
“They’ve invested in me,” Dan adds. “So now I can invest in myself.”

🌈 Freya thinks Pharmacy First this summer! 💊☀️

We're proud to have Freya, a Cornwall Pride ambassador, helping to raise awareness of the NHS Pharmacy First service and how easy it is to get expert healthcare advice from a local pharmacist.
As Freya says:

This summer, if you or your family need help with one of the seven common conditions covered by Pharmacy First, your local community pharmacy may be able to provide advice, treatment and, where appropriate, prescription medicines without needing a GP appointment.

Pharmacy First can help with: ✅ Sinusitis (12 years and over)
✅ Sore throat (5 years and over)
✅ Earache (1 to 17 years)
✅ Infected insect bites (1 year and over)
✅ Impetigo (1 year and over)
✅ Shingles (18 years and over)
✅ Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (women aged 16 to 64)

With summer holidays, festivals and days out in full swing, it's good to know that support is available close to home. Whether it's an infected insect bite after a day at the beach, earache after swimming, or a sore throat that won't shift, your local pharmacy can often be the first place to go.

No appointment is usually needed – simply walk in and speak to a pharmacist.

Did you know your pharmacist can help with 7 common conditions, meaning you don’t need to see your GP?

There are more than 90 pharmacies in Cornwall that can offer medical advice and help on the following health conditions…

• Earache (age 1 to 17)
• Sinusitis (age 12 and over)
• Sore throat (age 5 and over)
• Infected insect bite (age 1 and over)
• Impetigo, a skin infection (age 1 and over)
• Shingles (age 18 and over)
• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women (age 16 to 64)

Popping into your pharmacist means the NHS can free up GP appointments, helping to give people more choice on how they can access care.

There are lots of places that can help if you get injured.

💊 Run out of your repeat prescription? Here's some advice from our Senior pharmacist Amanda 👇

The best way to avoid running out of your regular medication is to order your repeat prescription in good time and check that you have enough medicine to last until your next prescription is ready.

If you are running low, contact your own GP practice as soon as possible to request a repeat prescription. You can still contact your own GP if you're visiting Cornwall, Isles of Scilly or Devon, but live elsewhere.

If you do run out of medication and need it urgently, you can either contact NHS 111, by phone or online, for advice and support, or visit your community pharmacy.

NHS 111 can assess your needs and direct you to the most appropriate service to help you access your medication. They may refer you to a pharmacy to get your medicine.

A pharmacist may be able to provide an emergency supply of certain medications, although charges may apply.
