NB Medical Hot Topics

NB Medical Hot Topics We run one day courses throughout the UK and Ireland where we update GPs with all the recent papers and guidelines.

By GPs for GPs, our mission is to help busy GPs with the difficult task of keeping up with all the new developments, papers and guidelines that are relevant to our daily work. We take the time busy GPs do not have to trawl through the literature, distil it and give GPs the essential information they really need to help their patients. The courses are designed to be fun and engaging, and delegates

leave with lots of ideas to take back to the practice and to help them help their patients and to help with appraisal and revalidation. Delegates receive a detailed book (now also with on-line access) which summarises all the material and is an invaluable consulting room reference!

BLOG: Top Ten Tips to Improve Eczema Management

We know what a miserable condition eczema can be - ‘eczema’ comes from the ancient Greek word for ‘boil’, which neatly sums up how it can feel, resulting in scratchy, irritable, sleep-deprived children (and parents!).

And whilst evidence tends to come in sporadically, we’ve had some very useful papers and nuggets in the guidelines over the past few years, which are definitely worth sharing.

👉 Which emollient should I recommend?
👉 Is there any evidence to reassure parents that topical steroids are safe?
👉 How do I stop that child scratching?
👉 What on earth is the weekend steroid regime?
👉 And finally, an evidence-based eczema support website for parents

BLOG: (Even) more evidence for statins safety

Working in primary care, we all prescribe a lot of statins. I'm sure we also meet lots of patients who are concerned about possible side effects from statins, including some people who don’t want to take a statin at all for this reason.

Statin drug labels list over 60 different possible adverse effects linked to statins, but which of these are actually caused by the medication?

A study recently published in The Lancet set out to answer this question by reviewing results from 19 different randomised controlled trials of over 124,000 people.

Read Dr Nick Jones' latest blog to learn more about their findings and what they mean for those oh-so-common statin prescriptions.

With skin concerns making up a significant part of general practice consultations, and many dermatology conditions being managed entirely in primary care, keeping knowledge up to date has never been more important.

For patients who do need a referral, waiting times are getting longer, making confident assessment and management in primary care even more valuable.

Join our webinar on 20th June to refresh your dermatology knowledge, strengthen your diagnostic skills, and build confidence in managing common skin conditions seen in general practice.
