Self Compassion can be so helpful …

So many people don’t even realize how hard they are pushing, how much they are giving, and how much energy they’re expending trying to keep all the balls in the air.

Today, how about a little gratitude for yourself? Chances are you probably have compassion for many people, but what about… for yourself?

β€œSelf-compassion simply involves doing a U-turn and giving yourself the same compassion you’d naturally show a friend when you’re struggling or feeling badly about yourself. It means being supportive when you’re facing a life challenge, feel inadequate, or make a mistake.” - Kristen Neff

It is good to hear a GP describe how reversible insulin resistance and high blood sugars are, naturally without the need for medications, which cause side effects ( 50% of Metformin patients have vitamin B12 deficiency ) ….in fact during my career in biomedical genetics research, I collaborated with Liverpool University Phamacolgy dept to jointly win funding for a PhD project that looked into the genetics of vitamin B12 deficiency in Metformin patients …

Often it is the patients educating the GP about how they manage their sugars naturally as in this example and as has been the case with several clients I have worked with.

I help clients understand how they process fats and sugars via their unique nutritional genetics pathways and monitoring, alongside their diet and lifestyle. Empowering them to make informed nutrient and lifestyle choices and better manage their metabolism, in a healthy way . In some cases they have also reversed their MASLD ( metabolic associated fatty liver disease )

I’m delighted to integrate trauma informed working into my practice for nervous system regulation, helping clients build greater capacity to deal with life’s ups and downs….

Reflexology and Flower Remedies are the perfect partners to work alongside trauma informed coaching;

Reflexology provides the somatic experience of nervous system balancing to bring about a sense of calm productivity and ability to deal with every day stresses.

Flower Remedies support specific emotions with a unique combination of 7 remedies selected specific to each individual ( from a selection of 38 remedies )

Coaching provides somatic tools and techniques to take away between treatments and a greater understanding of supporting difference nervous system states .

If you really wanted to delve even deeper, I’m also trained as a master practitioner in the genetics of the nervous system. This provides insight into the PTSD - Production, Transport, Sensitivity( of receptors) and Detox and removal of the brain neurotransmitters and how to supprt balance via specific nutrients and helps us honour and understand our experience and uniqueness.

I have had similar conversations with a few of my clients recently, about the state of procrastination. 😳

So, I thought I’d share a bit about this with you. ✍🏼

It is often misunderstood as laziness, or some other flawed human character trait. But in my observed experience this is not the case. Reading up on this, I have found that emerging perspectives in neuroscience suggest it may be rooted in the bodies stress response. Specifically, the β€˜freeze’ component, of the fight, flight, or freeze response of the sympathetic nervous system. 🧠

When faced with a perceived threat, whether physical or psychological, our bodies automatically engage this stress response. Whilst fight and flight involve active engagement or escape, the freeze response is a passive, immobilised state. It’s our bodies way of playing dead. Waiting for the danger to pass.

In my experience, the β€˜threat’ is rarely physical. It’s more often wrapped up in our fear of failure, judgment, overwhelm, or high expectations we may have on ourselves, or that we think others may have on us. Or, the most frequent reason I see, an accumulation of stress over time, causing overload.

Procrastination can then be understood as a manifestation of this freeze response. The sympathetic nervous system kicks in, but instead of fighting or fleeing, you freeze. In this state, your mind may feel foggy, paralysed, or avoidant. You delay tasks. Not out of choice, but from your nervous system being locked in a protective state.

The reframing of this word, and state, is so important for you. It shifts your procrastination from being a character flaw to a biological response.

Understanding procrastination as a freeze response allows for more compassionate and supportive strategies. Instead of forcing productivity, it may be more helpful to calm your nervous system first. To help it exit the freeze state, and return to a place of regulation, and balance. πŸ₯°

Of course, that’s where Reflexology enters the picture. I’ve seen its soothing role in my clients too many times to not shout it from the roof tops. πŸ“£
