PLEASE, ASK US

Following on from our recent post, we want families to know one very important thing:

When you place someone you love into our care, you have every right to ask questions.

Ask us where your loved one is being cared for.
Ask about our mortuary and facilities.
Ask what happens behind the scenes.
Ask about visiting, coffins, cremation, burial, ashes or costs.

Ask us anything.

There are no silly or awkward questions, and there is nothing we aren't prepared to explain.

We believe in being open, honest and transparent with the families who trust us.

If you'd like reassurance, an explanation or even to see where your loved one will be cared for — just ask.

Because you shouldn't simply have to hope they're being cared for properly.

You deserve to know.

HE DOES NOT REPRESENT US.

Like so many people within our profession, we have watched the horrifying details of the Legacy Independent Funeral Directors case in Hull unfold with anger, disbelief and heartbreak.

We won't dignify his actions by pretending they represent what it means to be a Funeral Director.

They don't.

This profession is built on trust.

Families place the person they love into our hands at one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. They trust us to care for them.

That responsibility is enormous — and we never forget it.

At Stubbins & Hope, we care for every person who comes through our doors with dignity, respect and compassion.

We treat them as somebody's Mum, Dad, Husband, Wife, Partner, Child, Grandparent, Brother, Sister or Friend.

Because that is exactly who they are.

Behind every person in our care is a family trusting us to do the right thing when nobody is watching.

And we do.

We answer the phone in the middle of the night.

We leave our own families to be there for yours.

We work evenings, weekends, Christmas and Bank Holidays.

We sit with families when they don't know what to do next.

We explain things when grief makes it impossible to take information in.

We speak up for families when they can't find the words themselves.

We obsess over the smallest details because we know that, on the day of a funeral, those details aren't small at all.

And when the doors to our mortuary close and there is nobody there to see how we care for someone?

The standard doesn't change.

Stubbins & Hope are proud members of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD).

Our membership means committing to professional standards and a strict Code of Practice, with our premises and procedures subject to inspection.

But ultimately, our standards aren't there simply because somebody may come and inspect us.

They are there because they are the right thing to do.

What happened in Hull was a horrifying betrayal of families who placed their trust in someone at the worst moment of their lives.

Our hearts go out to every single family affected.

But his actions do not represent the thousands of compassionate, dedicated and professional funeral directors who quietly care for people's loved ones every single day.

For us, this has never been just a job.

It is a responsibility.
It is a privilege.
It is an honour.

And we will never take the trust you place in us for granted.

Yesterday, Simon conducted the funeral of his close friend Andy.

Andy was a lifelong Mansfield Town supporter, a larger-than-life character and a family man with a heart of gold.

The number of people who came together to pay their respects was a true reflection of how much he meant to so many people and the lasting impact he had on everyone who knew him.

Pez, we all hope we gave you the send-off you truly deserved. It was a privilege to play a part in honouring your life.

Rest peacefully, Andy. 💙💛
