Today we stepped away from our usual café setting and tried something different… Crown Green Bowling!

As our organisation continues to grow, so does the way we support people, one thing we truly recognise and can’t shout it loud enough - we don’t all grieve the same, so how can one size fits all grief support reach everyone?
The Bereavement Cafe is passionate about listening to the people who use our services rather than assuming what they need.
That means testing new ideas, asking for honest feedback and letting our community help shape what comes next.

Today’s group of 12 had a fantastic morning. The feedback has been wonderful, with people telling us they enjoyed spending time with others, trying something new, having a laugh and feeling happier by the end of the session. Several also said that, had today not been organised, they would simply have stayed at home, alone.

Thank you to everyone who came along and, just as importantly, to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts. Your feedback helps us make sure we’re creating activities that people genuinely want and benefit from.
Big thank you to Steve at the Bowling Green, Over Hulton Bowling Green for letting us loose of the lawn and to our favourite PE Teacher Rebound Hypnotherapy

We’re incredibly proud to announce the launch of our dedicated Pet Bereavement Café, in partnership with The Bereavement Cafe CIC

Losing a pet can be one of the most heartbreaking experiences we ever face, yet many people feel they have nowhere to talk about their grief. That’s why we’re creating a safe, welcoming space where you can share your thoughts, your memories, or simply sit with others who truly understand.

Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, you’ll be surrounded by people who know just how deep the love for a pet can be.

Everyone is welcome, whether Rainbow Bridge cared for your pet, your veterinary practice arranged their aftercare, another pet crematorium looked after them, or you simply want to be with others who understand. This café is for anyone grieving the loss of a beloved pet.

Because grief is grief. The loss of a beloved companion is real, and no one should ever feel they have to grieve alone.

As far as we’re aware, this will be the first dedicated Pet Bereavement Café of its kind, and we’re honoured to be working alongside Bereavement Café CIC to bring this much-needed support to our local community.

At The Bereavement Cafe CIC we recognise that Grief is Grief, no matter who a person has lost, it is felt by the holder 100%
After another amazing meeting last week with Rainbow Bridge Pet Funerals the final stages of this collaboration are now underway with a hopeful launch in September 🤞
The loss of a pet is heartbreaking, and sadly it isn’t really recognised as a big loss by a lot of society, with comments such as “It’s just a pet” “You can just get another one” minimising those feelings.
When you take the time to listen to people whose pet has died, you will see a ripple effect of how much that companion meant to their world.
The daily routines
Walks = exercise, socialisation, friendships
Someone to talk to in the home
Someone to love and feel that love back
A child’s best friend - at times you will hear them say it’s their only friend
Someone to greet you when you return to an empty home
Someone you felt protects you

At our sessions, we recognise all this (and more).

One thing we are working around at the moment is when..
Could you please drop a comment below, or on the original post from Rainbow Bridge and let us know which you would feel suits you best.

Last night, myself and our three daughters headed to the cinema for our ritualistic “release day visit” to watch the latest Marvel movie.
Something we have been doing for years.
Our Families love of Marvel started with Steve, and we love continuing the tradition of getting together for our trip. It always brings up moments and memories and sentences starting like “remember when Dad used to..” ❤️
It’s the simple and small things that keeps them alive in our hearts and memories ❤️‍🩹
Do you have any traditions that you’ve kept up? I’d love to hear them 💚

Thank you for inviting us along to your Golf Day and asking us to be the Charity beneficiary.

We met so many amazing people, connected with several businesses and had some valuable conversations 💙

Days like this are a lifeline to us as a small Charity, all funds raised really do go back into supporting those who need and use our service.

Thank you to all the amazing team and staff from B2B for the support on the day - especially Head of House Isla, who dazzled in her little uniform 👧🏼

Applications are now OPEN for Laughter After Loss ✨
If you would like to be part of a new and unique partnership within Bolton between The Feather Fixer and The Bereavement Cafe CIC then please read on ⬇️

Have you experienced a significant loss and are looking for something positive, creative and a little bit different?
We're looking for a small group of people to join Laughter After Loss – a unique six-week creative project that explores how storytelling, humour, poetry and spoken word can help us reconnect with ourselves, build confidence and discover new skills.
This isn't a bereavement support group. It isn't stand-up comedy lessons. It's a safe, welcoming space where ordinary people come together to write, create, laugh, learn and support one another.
You don't need to be funny. You don't need to be creative. You don't need any experience at all.
Whether your loss is through bereavement, the end of a relationship, illness, redundancy or another significant life change, you're warmly invited to apply.
Over six Wednesday morning workshops you'll:
💜 Build confidence
✍️ Learn creative writing techniques
🎤 Explore comedy, storytelling, poetry and spoken word
😊 Meet new people
🌟 Create something you'll be proud of
You will also hear from other comedians and their experiences of loss and challenges to their wellbeing and how comedy has impacted that. The project finishes with a relaxed and informal showcase evening where you'll have the opportunity to share your work with family and friends. There's no pressure to be perfect, and you're welcome to use notes if you wish. We'll support you every step of the way.
📍 Markland Hill Racquets Club, Bolton
🗓 Wednesday mornings from 23 September – 4 November (see the information sheet for full dates)
☕ Refreshments included
Places are limited to ensure everyone receives plenty of support.
To apply for a place, please email:
📧 [email protected] or talk to anyone from The Bereavement Cafe.
We're incredibly grateful to Creative Bolton, Bolton Council and the UK Government Shared

A bit of a personal curiosity with this one.
I’m booked in to see a Medium this week. I sought a few out in the early Months after Steve died, and although I felt there was possibly a connection, I never left with a solid “that was him” .. I’m sceptical, but I do believe there is something or somewhere else, somewhere our energy lives on.. this is just my personal thought, and love hearing everyone else’s thoughts on this, especially those connections that have been made with someone’s loved one ❤️‍🩹
So, ahead of my session, I was wondering if those of you who do go to see mediums or even mediums / psychics themselves could tell me.. is there anything I can do before hand to try and strengthen the connection?
Jane
