As I continue on my nervous system learning journey, I’ve recently been working on my approach to sessions and implementing a more “layered approach” rather than heading straight for focal work to allow the body time to reorganise itself gradually and safely:
1. Establishing physiological safety
2. Encouraging parasympathetic regulation
3. Addressing fascial & spinal tension patterns
4. Facilitating localised release
5. Allowing nervous system integration
Today was really interesting with Zeus as the initial stages of the session he was guarded, moving around, wanting to eat etc then as I attempted to utilise the above principles, we saw a significant shift as his body started to reorganise itself and parasympathetic regulation began. At the end of the session he also did the most beautiful pandiculation stretch too!
You’ll be seeing me doing more of this type of work in sessions and notice I’m a lot quieter than usual 😂 this is an important part of what I’m doing!
