🌙 HOUR 1 OF 24 | WHY SU***DE PREVENTION MATTERS AT MIDNIGHT

Today, for World Su***de Prevention Day, SAP;UK is posting once every hour for 24 hours.

We're beginning at midnight for an important reason:

Suicidal crises don't follow office hours.

Suicidal thoughts can happen at any time. For some people, the middle of the night can be particularly difficult. The world becomes quieter, other people may be asleep, usual routines disappear, and accessing support can sometimes feel harder.

If you're struggling tonight, you don't have to wait until morning to tell someone.

Tell somebody you trust what is happening. Try not to remain alone if you feel at risk. Move away from anything you could use to harm yourself and use your safety plan if you have one.

Most importantly, don't put pressure on yourself to solve your whole life tonight.

Focus on the next hour.
The next few minutes.
The next breath if you need to.

If you cannot keep yourself safe, please seek urgent professional help. In an immediate emergency or if there is a risk to life, call 999 or go to A&E. You can also call Samaritans free on 116 123, 24 hours a day.

This is Hour 1 of 24.

Over the next 24 hours, we'll be talking openly about su***de, prevention, warning signs, safety, supporting others, recovery, lived experience, reflection and hope.

Because su***de prevention matters at midnight.

It matters at 3am.

It matters tomorrow afternoon.

It matters every hour of every day.

This World Su***de Prevention Day, we're thinking of all those affected by su***de.

This year’s theme, 'Changing the Narrative on Su***de', reminds us that the way we talk about su***de matters. When we replace silence with connection, stigma with understanding, and fear with compassion, we create space for people to feel heard and supported.

Today and any day, you can be there for those struggling, those living with loss, and those supporting others. A simple check‑in can be the start of a life‑changing conversation.

If you're going through a difficult time and need support, we encourage you to contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

One of the things we hear often is...

When parents bravely share their experiences , alongside the love they have for their child, there can also be a sense of grief from the experiences and impact CPA has on the family.

Perhaps family life looks different to what you imagined.

Perhaps there are moments, traditions, relationships, or opportunities that have been discarded along the way.

Perhaps you've found yourself missing the feeling of being able to fully relax at home, or longing for the connection you once shared with your child.

These feelings are complicated.

They can exist alongside hope, love, determination and a continued commitment to supporting your child.

Acknowledging these emotions doesn't mean giving up. It doesn't mean loving your child any less.

It simply means recognising that Child to Parent Abuse can be incredibly challenging and that the impact on parental figures and families matters too.

We believe there should be space for these conversations💜

Whatever you may be feeling today, please know that your feelings are valid💜

💜 DAY 7 — 30 REASONS TO STAY
✨ The September Challenge ✨

Today, we want you to press pause and take a moment to reflect.

💭 What’s something you’re glad you stayed for?

Maybe it was something huge that changed your life, or maybe it was one of those little moments you never knew was waiting for you.

🌅 A sunset that took your breath away
☕ A warm drink on a difficult morning
😂 A laugh you really needed
🐾 A pet coming into your life
🫂 Someone you hadn't met yet
🎵 A song that became your favourite
🌈 A moment when things finally started feeling a little lighter
❤️ Or simply another day that turned out better than you expected

When you're going through an incredibly difficult moment, it can be hard to imagine that anything could ever feel different.

But there are people you haven't met, memories you haven't made, places you haven't visited, laughs you haven't had and ordinary little moments you don't even know are coming yet.

For Day 7, we'd love you to reflect on one of those moments that you're grateful you got to experience.

💬 Complete the sentence in the comments:

“I’m glad I stayed for ______.” 💜

Your answer might even give someone else a little hope today. 🫶🏻

Whatever your reason is, it matters. You matter.

One day at a time. One reason at a time.
💜 Your story isn't over.

Whatever you're up to this bank holiday weekend, we hope it brings you joy.

From 5pm today, we won't be checking comments until Tuesday 1 September.
