"Rachel is extremely gentle in her approach, yet the therapeutic results are profound. I am amazed at the benefits for my mind and body. I feel a deep sense of connection with my thoughts and the tension I hold my body. I feel relaxed and have peace after each session. I am extremely grateful. Thank you"

It was so wonderful to receive this review written by a recent client. My accrediting body, The Craniosacral Therapy Association, does not allow its members to ask for reviews so it is even sweeter that my client felt compelled to leave this review without being asked. Thank you.

It is an absolute honour and privilege to hold space and support this client AND each and every one of all my clients. I feel truly blessed to do this work.

What might progress look like? It might not always be what you think…

It might be a reduction or a complete cessation of symptoms which of course is brilliant. But it may also be more subtle than that. Perhaps an ability to find ease in your life, noticing that you are able to find a pause and respond rather than an immediate reaction. You might be sleeping better, experiencing better digestion, better skin or simply feeling better in an unspecific way.

And sometimes it may be that you are not getting worse, or a slowing down of a progressive condition. You are staying as you are, holding your own. And that in itself can be huge progress.

Whatever progress looks like to you we will work together to monitor, acknowledge and celebrate.

If this gentle non judgemental approach appeals to you please get in touch for a free 20 min call to explore and to book an appointment if it feels right.

In Action for Happiness this month is all about finding meaning and ways to be part of something bigger than ourselves. Whether that is through community or perhaps nature, the calendar is full of 31 ideas and tips on finding meaning.

For me finding meaning is found easily through the lens of awe. In his book Awe, Dacher Keltner defines awe as “the feeling of being in the presence of something vast that transcends your current understanding of the world” He concluded there were 8 different categories of awe - moral beauty, collective efferevescence, nature, music, visual design, spirituality, life and death, epiphanies. Through these everyday sources of awe small, accessible moments of wonder can have profound effects on how we feel, relate, and thrive.

Somewhere amidst a few of those categories I also experience awe in my Craniosacral work and the human beings I am so privileged to treat and support.

Meet your RTM - your Reciprocal Tension Membrane which is a key component of my Craniosacral work!

I know it looks like some weird shrimp but it’s actually a model of the connective tissue membrane which runs from deep in your forehead all the way down to your sacrum at the bottom of your spine.

This model was made by my dear friend Issy as part of our course and she kindly gifted it to me and it serves as a beautiful reminder in my clinic room of what I am connecting with. My own model was made out of crochet and wire!

Great bit of coverage for the benefits of Craniosacral Therapy. You don't need to be suffering to benefit. I mostly have Craniosacral Therapy myself to enhance my wellbeing.

We generally know that the nervous system conveys information between the brain and the body and that this is a two way flow of information and instruction.

In Craniosacral Therapy we are working mainly with the vagus nerve and the really cool thing about the vagus nerve is that 80% (approx) of the time it is sending information from our body to the brain. When we feel safe in our body the vagus nerve tells our brain we are safe. And that is why during sessions I'm often asking things like where in your body feels ok, can you feel where my hand is, can you feel the couch beneath you, what do you notice about your breathing, your heart rate. When we begin to notice and acknowledge feelings of safety in our body that message of safety is conveyed to our brains.

Finding a sense of safety is a huge part of any healing journey.

There are so many different ways in which we can help support our health, of course by seeking therapy like Craniosacral therapy, but there is also much we can do to help ourselves. This blog from Carrie Bennett published in The Fascia Hub explains about the colours we get from being in sunlight and how each colour, each phase of the light in the day helps support our cells and our well-being.

Carrie recommends these simple ways in which we can get more of the benefits of natural light -
• Exercise outside at sunrise [during this early, beneficial infrared time.]
• Drive without sunglasses on and the sunroof open
• Work near an open window
• Schedule your first meeting of the day to be a phone call, and talk outside
• Sit outside for lunch
• Take “light breaks” throughout the day to sync up and soak up the healing
light frequencies available

I try to be up and out for a short daily walk every morning around sunrise - I just love the early morning light, it bathes me in infrared, red light and blue light which helps me feel alive and part of nature.

How might you get more benefit from natural light?

Some of my new followers might not be aware that for 3 years I published a fortnightly podcast called Lessons from Loss, in which I interviewed different guests about their own personal experiences of loss and what they learned that now positively guides their lives today.

I haven't published an episode for many months now as my Craniosacral studying rightly took precedent but I keep the podcast alive and kicking as it is still a very useful and interesting resource for people who have experienced or are going through loss.

I was delighted this morning to get an email to say there have been over 5000 downloads! Wow - that blows my mind that 5000 times an episode has been downloaded (and hopefully listened to)!

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the creation of the podcasts, and listened and shared. It was a wonderful project to do and maybe one day I'll get back to it. But for now there are still 60 episodes available covering so many different experiences of loss and just as many lessons learned from the experiences.

Available on all major podcast streaming platforms (still makes me smile to say that) or direct from Podbean
