When the world around you feels different 💙

Throughout their journey, Dan and Jess found that some of the hardest moments happened outside of the clinic—when life around them continued as normal while they were facing something that felt life-changing.

Seeing others start or grow their families, hearing pregnancy announcements, or being asked questions about when they would have children brought up emotions that were difficult to navigate. Like many people experiencing infertility, they found themselves balancing the desire to share what they were going through with the feeling that sometimes it was easier not to explain.

Fertility journeys can feel isolating, and it’s important to remember that it’s okay to set boundaries, take things at your own pace, and find support from people who truly understand.

Taking the time to prepare 💙

When you're ready to start your fertility journey, waiting can feel incredibly difficult. Every day can feel like a step away from where you want to be, especially when all you want is to begin treatment.

For some people, that preparation may include working towards a healthier BMI before starting treatment. While it can feel like a delay, these steps are there to help you feel as ready and supported as possible when you begin your journey.

Finding the right support 💙

Opening up about infertility isn't always easy, and for many people, it takes time before they feel ready to talk about what they're going through.

A fertility diagnosis can make it feel as though your world has been turned upside down, while everyone else's life carries on as normal. It can also be difficult when people, despite their best intentions, don't fully understand what you're going through.

Ever wondered what happens during ICSI? ✨

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic S***m Injection) is a specialised laboratory technique used in some IVF treatments. During the procedure, one carefully selected s***m is injected directly into a mature egg by an embryologist using highly precise equipment.

ICSI may be recommended in certain circumstances, including:
🧬 Low s***m count or reduced s***m quality
🧬 Previous fertilisation difficulties
🧬 The use of frozen s***m or surgically retrieved s***m
🧬 Other situations where your fertility specialist believes it offers the best chance of fertilisation

In this video, you're seeing the procedure through the embryologist's microscope, giving you a rare glimpse into the precision, skill and care involved in every step.

Every egg and every treatment plan is unique, which is why ICSI isn't necessary for everyone. Your fertility team will recommend the approach that's most appropriate for your individual circumstances.

Are you a compassionate Registered Nurse or Midwife looking for a rewarding new opportunity? Join our dedicated team at Bourn Hall Cambridge and help support patients through one of the most important journeys of their lives.

We're looking for a Fertility Midwife/Nurse to join us on a part-time basis (minimum 4 days per week), working 7.5-hour shifts between 8 am and 5 pm.

We're looking for someone who:
✨ Is a Registered Nurse or Midwife
✨ Has experience in theatre, recovery and/or ward settings (or a strong desire to develop these skills)
✨ Has IV sedation training, or is willing to undertake training
✨ Has scanning experience (desirable, but not essential)

At Bourn Hall, you'll become part of a supportive, collaborative team where your expertise can make a real difference to the lives of our patients every day.
