Some experiences stay with you.
Earlier this year, I sat in ceremony and birthed my own drum.
I went into the day thinking I was going to make a drum.
I came away with something so much more.
There was something about working with the hide, feeling it beneath my hands, slowing down enough to listen and allowing the drum to come into being rather than simply making it.
And then, when I held it for the first time…
I felt it.
A connection.
A knowing.
A relationship that hadn't been there before.
Since then, my drum has become part of my practice in ways I couldn't have anticipated. It has changed the way I journey, the way I work with sound and rhythm, and even the way I hold space for you.
It feels like another voice in the room.
Another heartbeat.
Another layer of connection.
So I am absolutely delighted that Shamanic Earth with Tracey Coulson – the Mother of Drums – is coming back to Peace Heal Love Wellbeing Centre to hold another Drum Birthing Ceremony.
And this time, I get to witness others experience what I experienced.
I get to watch you meet your drum.
Feel its energy.
Work with your hands.
Become frustrated when something doesn't quite go to plan.
Laugh.
Connect.
Listen.
And eventually hold something that you have brought into this world yourself.
There is something incredibly powerful about that.
We spend so much of our lives surrounded by things that are made quickly, bought easily and replaced without much thought.
This is different.
This is slow.
This is intentional.
This is something you create in ceremony, with your own hands, your own energy and your own heart.
And perhaps, like me, you won't fully understand what it means to you until you are sitting there with your finished drum in your lap.
Saturday 26th September.
If you feel something stirring as you read this, perhaps listen to it.
Because perhaps your drum is waiting for you too.
