Two years ago, I was working in a primary school as a Pastoral and Wellbeing Champion, supporting children with SEND and additional needs.
I absolutely loved supporting children's mental health and wellbeing but like so many school staff, I was constantly being pulled in different directions. I was overwhelmed, close to burnout and frustrated that I couldn't give children the time and support they truly deserved.
Then my role came to an end due to funding.
At the same time, a close family member, dear Uncle Buck as we called him, became terminally ill.
Spending time with him in the hospice made me stop and really take stock of life. Watching the incredible staff and volunteers there reminded me just how much of a difference one person can make during difficult times.
It made me realise that life is far too short not to do something you're passionate about.
When Uncle Buck passed away, he left me a gift that enabled me to take a leap of faith and start my own business.
And that's how Emma's Wellbeing Therapies was born.
Through my work in schools, I could clearly see a huge gap in early emotional wellbeing support for children and young people and I wanted to help bridge the gap.
Nearly two years later, I've had the privilege of supporting over 24 children and young people through therapeutic play approaches, including drawing and talking therapy and Sandplay. I've also supported parents through some incredibly challenging times.
Starting my own business has been one of the scariest things I've ever done but I've never once regretted it.
And none of it would have happened without Uncle Buck ♥️
Has there ever been a moment that made you stop and rethink the path you were on?
