One of our residents’ favourite ways to spend an afternoon is enjoying some live musical entertainment by one of the brilliant local performers who visit the home. 🎶🎤

We are fortunate to work with several fantastic performers, all offering their own unique variety of musical entertainment. By welcoming musicians who perform a variety of musical styles and genres, we are able to ensure there is something to suit the interests of all our residents.

Recently, we have enjoyed visits from Nick, who delighted our residents by singing a selection of their favourite songs and kept everyone laughing with his stories and jokes. The wonderful Nicole has also paid us a visit recently and sang songs from a variety of genres, including some classical music, which our residents really enjoyed.

Whether they are singing and dancing along, clapping for the performers, or simply quietly listening, music always brings so much joy to our residents, and we make sure this is a regular part of our programme of activities.

As part of our series of summer adventures on our minibus, the residents enjoyed another visit to the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum. 🏍️

This was a trip that truly offered something for everyone! Some of our residents were keen to explore the museum, looking at all the motorbikes from different eras and reminiscing about their own bikes, including one resident who owned a Norton bike. Residents with an interest in motorcycles, mechanics, and engineering had a great time looking around the museum.

Other residents enjoyed walking around the gardens at the museum and meeting the many animals that live there. They had a lovely time saying hello to the goats, alpacas and geese, and seeing all the beautiful birds in the aviary. 🦜

Of course, we had to pay a visit to Sammy’s Pit Stop café for some refreshments. Residents enjoyed a cup of tea and cake or scones, while chatting about everything they had seen.

What made this trip extra special for our residents was getting to meet Sammy Miller himself! The motorcycle legend, one of the greatest trial riders in history, was in his workshop and kindly stopped to say hello to our residents. One of our residents was absolutely delighted to be invited in to see the rare Norton motorcycle Sammy was working on for the museum. 🔧

It was a wonderful day and everyone enjoyed getting to explore this brilliant local attraction. Thank you to everyone at Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum for making us feel so welcome.

Our dining room renovation is underway, and we think the room is already looking fantastic. ⭐

As you might know, we have been planning a makeover for our ground floor dining room, and we’re delighted to share the first updates as the new and improved décor starts to come together.

The dining room is a central hub of the home, where residents not only come together to share meals, but also for events, entertainment and activities. Our dining room is regularly transformed with themed décor for seasonal events, or rearranged into our own performance space, ready to host live music and theatre. So we want to make sure this is a room that feels bright and cheerful, a space where our residents enjoy spending time.

With fresh colours on the walls and the first pieces of new furniture arriving, the dining room is already looking like a whole new space, and we can’t wait to share the final reveal when the last finishing touches are in place. 🍽️

Recently, our residents spent some time learning about the history and traditions of the festival of Onam.

Onam marks the Malayalam New Yer, and is the official national harvest and cultural festival of Kerala, India. Our staff were more than happy to share this celebration with our residents and explain to them the meanings behind some of the traditions.

The residents were interested to hear about the intricate floral carpets created for the celebration and the traditional feasts that were held. They also enjoyed learning about the street performances and famous snake boat races that take place in Kerala in celebration of Onam. Watching footage of the joyful and colourful festivities was particularly captivating.

As part of our own mini Onam celebration for the residents, we created our own floral decorations and enjoyed some treats and refreshments. The residents had a wonderful day and enjoyed learning about the festival.

Congratulations to Draupadi, who celebrated 15 years at Windsor Court Care Home!

Draupadi has been a member of our domestic team for the past 15 years and is a beloved member of our Windsor Court community. We want to say a big thank you to Draupadi for her years of dedication and for everything she does to support our residents and keep the home running smoothly.

We are delighted to have such a passionate and committed team at Windsor Court; it is thanks to their hard work that we are able to ensure our residents are living happy and fulfilled lives in our care.

We welcomed the The Green Room company to the home to delight our residents with their new garden-themed show. 🎭

We love to see the dining room of Windsor Court transformed into our very own theatre for a private performance of the latest production by the brilliant performers from the Green Room Theatre Company.

The title of the play was ‘The Allotment’, which was perfect for our residents, many of whom are keen gardeners. 🪏🪴

Everyone had a fantastic time watching the show; they really enjoyed the story and joining in with the sing-along sections. It was a brilliant, engaging performance, and our residents had a lot of fun.

As summer draws to a close, we thought what better way to celebrate a lovely summer in Bournemouth than with a week of beach-themed activities. ⛱️☀️

One of our residents’ favourite activities of Beach Week was a seaside-inspired memory game. For our take on Kim’s Game, the residents worked in teams to memorise and recall different beach-related objects that reminded them of trips to the seaside and family holidays. They worked together to name as many of the 12 objects as possible once the table was covered, some residents even took a turn working alone to test their memory skills. 🐚👒🪣🕶️
When they had finished playing the game, the residents relaxed with a well-deserved ice cream. 🍦

Kim’s Game is often played by members of Scout groups and is even part of military training. It is a great activity to help build awareness and recall skills. The name Kim’s Game comes from the novel Kim, by Rudyard Kipling, about a spy in training. At Windsor Court, Kim’s Game is a fantastic way to help residents practice their observation and memory skills, while inspiring the residents to reminisce and share stories. It is a popular game with our residents, and we often theme it around activities or events to make it even more fun.
