September may have only just arrived but here at Handsworth we carried out our first Christmas activity this afternoon🌲! Residents and staff have been working together to design their own Christmas cards. These will be available for relatives to order over the Christmas period and money raised will be added to our residents funds which plays a vital part in being able to continue to make memories and carry out meaningful activities with our wonderful residents. .

🍪 Bringing warmth and sunshine through baking🍪
September has definitely arrived in full force with this miserable weather, but that didn't stop some of our residents bringing warmth and laughter into the home yesterday. We enjoyed a lovely baking session creating jam cookies, filling the home with delicious smells of freshly baked treats. There was lots of laughter, mixing, measuring and mess as we enjoyed each other's company. Sometimes all it takes to brighten a day is good company and memory making. We can't wait to enjoy our cookies with a cup of tea this morning ☕️🍪

Everyone chose their favourite colours and experimented with different patterns.
It was a fun afternoon of creativity, laughter and bright colours.

Did you know at Handsworth we have our own private social media application. Famileo works in a similar way to Facebook except you have to be invited to join it with your loved ones unique family code. You can also invite other family members to sign up using the code. It is a place where pictures and updates can be added either through the community wall or your loved ones private wall. You can also create your own gazette, where you can add your own pictures and and updates, these are printed weekly and given out to your loved one. We had a lovely morning on National Bakewell Tart day making some delicious treats. Instead of creating the traditional tart we put our own twist on it and created some delicious bakewell scones.
It was a morning of laughter and mixing along with sharing memories of favourite bakes. The best part of all though was the tasting. They were served with traditional clotted cream and jam and went down a treat with a lovely cup of tea

🍻☀️ A trip to The Griffin ☀️🍻
We had a lovely afternoon on friday as some of our residents enjoyed a trip to the local pub. The weather was kind to us as we had a good chat and refreshments in the garden. It was lovely to spend the time together away from the home with lots of laughter and conversations. We are already planning our next trip ☀️ We would also like to say a big thank you to the staff and relatives who volunteered their time to make the trip possible 😊

Everyone here at Handsworth would like to say a huge thank you to home manager, Julia’s husband Lee, for completing his skydive yesterday.
As you may all remember the junp was originally planned for last year, but due to bad weather had to be postponed. We are so pleased that Lee was finally able to take the leap of 14,000 feet today and all in support of our wonderful home.
We would also like to take the time to thank all of those who donated and supported the fundraising that saw us raise £600 for the home and it’s residents.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this fundraiser a success

Yesterday we had the pleasure of hosting an employee volunteer day for the company AstraZeneca.
The morning was spent in the garden tidying up the flower beds and adding new plants to our hanging baskets to create a lovely relaxing outdoor space for our residents to enjoy over the coming months.
In the afternoon, the fun carried on indoors where the team carried out a lively game of bingo. There was friendly competition and lots of laughter throughout.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the volunteers for giving up their time and energy, to create a day of fun for our residents. Your kindness and support means so much to the residents here at Handsworth 🌼

With the sun missing, a handful of our residents spent a dull afternoon flower arranging. Each residents spent time creating a beautiful and bright display of flowers which were then placed on all of the tables in the dining room for all of our residents to enjoy.
