๐Ÿ‘€ Did you know eye colour isnโ€™t as simple as looking at a chartโ“
๐Ÿ˜ฎ In fact, scientists believe 11 different genes play a role in determining the colour of your eyes!

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ While parentsโ€™ eye colours can give some clues, genetics love to surprise us - meaning your babyโ€™s eye colour might be totally unexpected!

โ“ Was our eye colour predictor right for your little one? Drop a comment and let us know!

๐Ÿ‘‰ TAG a mum or dad-to-be so they can join the fun and guess their babyโ€™s eye colour.

๐Ÿ‘‰ SAVE this post if youโ€™re expecting - and check back later to see if the chart got it right!

๐Ÿค’ A normal temperature in babies and children is about 36.4C, but this can vary slightly. A fever is usually considered to be a temperature of 38C or above.

๐Ÿ‘ถ Your baby may have a high temperature if they:

๐Ÿ”น feel hotter than usual to touch on their forehead, back or stomach
๐Ÿ”น feel sweaty or clammy
๐Ÿ”น have flushed cheeks

๐ŸŒก๏ธ If you think your baby has a temperature, it's best to check with a thermometer.

โญ๏ธ Ideally, you need a digital under arm thermometer to get a fast, accurate reading.

๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€โš•๏ธ You can buy these online or from pharmacies and most large supermarkets.

๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ To take your child's temperature:

๐Ÿ”น Hold them comfortably on your knee and put the thermometer in their armpit โ€“ always use the thermometer in the armpit with children under 5 years to get the most accurate reading.

๐Ÿ”น Gently, but firmly, hold their arm against their body to keep the thermometer in place for however long it says in the manufacturer's instructions โ€“ usually about 15 seconds.

๐Ÿ”น The display on the thermometer will then show your child's temperature.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully, you should get an accurate reading.

๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ There are a few things that can slightly alter the reading โ€“ if your child has been:

๐Ÿ”น wrapped up tightly in a blanket
๐Ÿ”น in a very warm room
๐Ÿ”น very active
๐Ÿ”น cuddling a hot water bottle
๐Ÿ”น wearing a lot of clothes
๐Ÿ”น having a bath

๐Ÿ†’ If so, allow them to cool down for a few minutes, but do not let them get cold or shivery, then take their temperature again to see if there's any change.

๐Ÿ’™ Hormones are chemicals produced by different glands across your body. They travel through the bloodstream, acting as messengers and playing a part in many bodily processes.

๐Ÿ”น One of these important functions is helping to regulate your mood.

๐Ÿฅฐ Certain hormones are known to help promote positive feelings, including happiness and pleasure and these are some very simple ways we can help our bodies to produce them!

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Ever wondered when your little one will pick a favourite hand?

โฌ‡๏ธ Hereโ€™s when hand dominance usually reveals itself - and why it matters!

0โ€“12 months: No preference yet - babies are busy exploring with both hands.

1โ€“2 years: You might spot a leaning, but itโ€™s common to switch hands.

2โ€“4 years: A consistent preference begins to shine through - drawing, feeding, playing.

By age 5โ€“6: Most children in the UK show a clear dominant hand, just in time for primary school!

โ“Did you know?

โ€ข Around 90% of people are right-handed

โ€ข Only 10% are lefties - and theyโ€™re more likely to be creative thinkers!

โ€ข True ambidexterity (using both hands equally well) is very rare - only about 1% of the population.

๐Ÿ’ก Top tip: If your child shows a very strong preference before age 1 - or avoids using one hand - itโ€™s a good idea to check in with a health visitor or GP. Early support can make all the difference

๐Ÿ‘ถ Send this with someone who might find it useful!

1 โ€“ Check before you visit โ€“ always check itโ€™s convenient to visit. Donโ€™t just turn up.

2 โ€“ Stay home if youโ€™re unwell โ€“ even a mild cold can be dangerous for a newborn. Wait until youโ€™re feeling better.

3 โ€“ Wash your hands โ€“ clean hands help protect little ones from germs before cuddles.

4 โ€“ Donโ€™t kiss the baby โ€“ kisses can spread viruses that are harmless to adults but serious for babies.

5 โ€“ Keep visits short โ€“ new parents and babies need plenty of time to rest and recover.

6 โ€“ Respect feeding time โ€“ feeding comes first. Be patient and give them the space they need.

7 โ€“ Make the tea โ€“ put the kettle on, bring snacks, or help with the washing up. Small acts make a big difference. Donโ€™t expect to be waited on.

8 โ€“ Skip the advice โ€“ unless they ask, keep opinions to yourself. Let them figure this out in their own time.

9 โ€“ Offer practical help โ€“ fold some laundry, empty the dishwasher, or pick up a few useful bits from the shop. Help is the best gift.
