Starting or returning to school or nursery is a huge transition for everyone – and those morning drop-offs can bring up some really big feelings. 🥹

🔑 The secret to a smoother goodbye? Predictability and consistency!

😘 Children thrive when they know what to expect. Whether it’s a special goodbye phrase, a designated "kissing hand", or simply following the exact same steps each morning, these small rituals build confidence and security.

🫶 Be patient with them – and yourself. Adjusting to change takes time for parents as well as children.

It can feel like parents are expected to be doing big, exciting activities all the time. But for babies and toddlers, it’s the small moments that matter most. 💙

A quiet cuddle, locking eyes with your baby, blowing bubbles with your toddler — these simple moments fill your child’s emotional cup and help them feel safe, loved, and connected. 💙

We are celebrating World Breastfeeding Week!

🍼 Breastfeeding is not always possible or chosen by parents and carers. However you feed your baby, what matters most is how you understand and respond to your baby's feeding cues.

👶By practicing responsive feeding — i.e. learning your baby's unique hunger cues and responding early — you are building a secure, loving relationship right from the start.

📞Need a helping hand? Breastfeeding support is always available through your health visitor or by calling the National Breastfeeding Helpline UK at 0300 100 0212.

Summer holidays can feel like a long time to keep the little ones busy! Here are a few simple, stress-free tips to help you get through the break:

✒️ Make a list of easy activities for any weather. It doesn't have to take massive effort - simple ideas like coloring the footpath with chalk work great!

🌳Don't overthink it. Blow bubbles in the park, run barefoot in the grass, or feed the ducks at your local pond.

💬 Babies and toddlers love hearing your voice. Keep them engaged by chatting about all the different things you see together.

🏠 The dishes can wait, but summer memories won't. Give yourself permission to choose fun over a spotless home.

🌞Try to keep babies out of the sun and in the shade during the hottest parts of the day (11AM - 3PM).

🆓 Free Local Activities

Our local Family Hubs are hosting free, outdoor "Stay & Play" sessions this summer (some are even seaside-themed!). Check out your nearest hub for schedules:

As the sun comes out and the weather starts to get warmer, it’s important to be well prepared when taking babies outside. ☀

A few ideas could be:

🌞Pack sunscreens, parasols, hats, plenty to drink, portable fan (attached safely to the pram), snacks/milk/drinks cooling flannel or small towel, spare cool outfits (or two!).

🌞Younger babies may want to drink more milk - as the weather may make them feel a little more thirsty.

🌞Being in the hot weather can make babies act differently to normally, as they may be feeling grumpy and hot. This might mean that they want extra cuddles!

🌞Remember to pack drinks for yourself too!

It’s International Kissing Day on the 6th of July! ❤

Did you know that kissing and hugging your baby can have many benefits – both for you and your baby?

Here are just a few to name:
🫶Kissing your baby can make them feel calmer.
🫶Physical affection can strengthen the bond between parent/carer and baby by increasing feelings of love and closeness.
🫶Kissing your baby can help strengthen their immune system.
🫶Kisses, hugs and cuddles help babies and young children learn to care about others.

If you are pregnant and have older children, would they like to try giving the baby bump a little kiss?

Learning Disability Week – 15th – 21st June

This year, the theme is ‘do you see me?’ - this means that there is a focus on making sure that all people with a learning disability are seen, heard and valued across all aspects of society.

Mencap are a charity that celebrate, support and raise awareness for people who have a learning disability. They are also a great place to find information if you want to know more.

Many carers with a learning disability will be taking care of their families, and they may also be supporting children who have a learning disability. It is very important for families that inclusion is promoted, and that every family has equal opportunities.

We know that there may be additional challenges in parenting for people who have a learning disability. It is important to talk about challenges faced, whether this is with friends or family, or maybe a health professional. A health professional can direct you to local services.

At Little Minds Matter, we can help carers with learning disabilities to think about these challenges, which may be impacting their relationship with their baby.
