If you’re waiting for GCSE results tomorrow, or you’re the parent of someone who is, there’s something I really want you to remember before you open that envelope.
A GCSE grade tells us how someone performed in a particular set of exams, under a particular set of conditions. It cannot tell us how hard they worked, what they were coping with behind the scenes, how much they had to overcome just to get into that exam hall, or what they are capable of becoming.

A diagnosis doesn’t suddenly make everything easy, but it can completely change the way you understand yourself.

As a neurodivergent psychotherapist who works with autistic and ADHD clients, I see this again and again. Since sharing my recent video, so many people have contacted me to say that receiving an ADHD or autism diagnosis brought relief, validation and finally an explanation for things they had struggled with for years.

For many people, a late diagnosis means replacing years of self-blame with self-understanding.

It can help you recognise masking, sensory overwhelm, executive functioning difficulties, autistic burnout, ADHD traits and the enormous amount of energy you may have spent trying to fit into a world that wasn’t designed around the way your brain works.

Diagnosis isn’t about making excuses. It can be about understanding your needs, recognising your strengths and learning to treat yourself with far more compassion.

💬 If you were diagnosed with ADHD, autism or AuDHD later in life, what did you understand differently about yourself afterwards?

Autism is not a competition about who is more autistic.

A late diagnosis doesn’t suddenly make you neurodivergent. Sometimes it simply gives you a new way of understanding experiences you’ve been having for decades.

Today, a noisy restaurant reminded me just how much I used to dismiss my own sensory needs as being “oversensitive” or intolerant.

Now I understand my nervous system differently, and that understanding brings a lot more self-compassion.

The neurodivergence isn’t new. The understanding is. 💚

I overheard someone saying ‘ they were diagnosed before autism was fashionable’ today , tbh I was furious and if i could have run fast enough i would have caught up with them and told them my thoughts! As I was already out of breath this wasn’t an option so here’s what I did …….

Life has been busy, and if I’m honest, my own self care has slipped a little.

This August I’m taking a step back from face to face client work while we move house, giving myself the time and space to recharge too.

As therapists, parents, carers and busy humans, we often know exactly what we should be doing, but remembering to do it ourselves is another matter.

Today’s reminder is simple. Get outside if you can. Nature, movement and fresh air are powerful medicine for the nervous system. 🌿

Sometimes the kindest thing you can do for yourself is slow down long enough to breathe.

Have you managed to get outside today? 💚

Life can feel relentlessly busy.

We’re constantly caring for others, juggling responsibilities and moving from one task to the next. Somewhere along the way, it’s easy to lose sight of ourselves.

Restore Retreats was created as an opportunity to press pause.

Not to escape life, but to create space to breathe, reflect and reconnect with yourself.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, navigating a period of change, or simply longing for a few hours of calm, you’ll be welcomed exactly as you are.

No previous experience is needed. You don’t have to be “good” at yoga or know anything about hypnotherapy. We’ll gently guide you through the afternoon in a warm, supportive and inclusive environment where there is no pressure to perform or be anything other than yourself.

During the afternoon you’ll enjoy:

🌿 Gentle Yin Yoga suitable for all abilities

🧠 Guided Hypnotherapy and NLP

☕ Homemade refreshments and tea

🥪 A relaxed picnic in beautiful surroundings (please bring your own lunch)

💛 Time to rest, reflect, reconnect and simply be

If you’ve been telling yourself, “I really need to make time for me,” perhaps this is your sign.

Sometimes our brains tell us stories that feel completely true.
Recently I walked into a meeting convinced I’d done something wrong.

I’d already imagined the criticism.
I’d replayed conversations in my head.
I’d prepared myself for disappointment.

Instead, I was met with gratitude and appreciation.

It was such a powerful reminder of something I talk about with clients all the time

Our brains are prediction machines, not fact machines.

For many people with ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence, Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) can make even the possibility of criticism feel like certainty. A delayed reply, a change in someone’s tone, or an unanswered message can quickly become evidence that we’ve let someone down, even when there is no evidence at all.

The feelings are real.

The conclusions our brains jump to aren’t always accurate.

Learning to pause before believing every thought has been one of the most important lessons in my own life, and it’s something I help many of the children, teenagers, parents and adults I work with to understand.

We don’t need to dismiss our feelings.
We simply need to become curious about the story our brain is telling us.

💚 Have you ever experienced RSD or found yourself assuming the worst, only to discover reality was completely different?

I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments. Your story might help someone else feel a little less alone.

Do transitions feel harder than they “should”?

For many neurodivergent children and young people, it’s often not the big life changes that are the hardest. Sometimes it’s the small, everyday transitions that can feel the most overwhelming.

Moving from one activity to another.
Leaving the house.
Starting school.
Coming home after masking all day.
Stopping a favourite activity.
Even getting ready for bed.

I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Katherine Connolly about why transitions can be so challenging, what is happening in the nervous system, and, most importantly, practical ways parents and professionals can help.

We explore:
✨ Why transitions can trigger anxiety and dysregulation
✨ How to make everyday transitions feel safer and more predictable
✨ Why behaviour is often communication rather than defiance
✨ Simple, compassionate strategies that really can make a difference

Whether you’re parenting, teaching or supporting a neurodivergent child, I hope you’ll find something helpful in this conversation.

I’d love to hear your thoughts after you’ve watched. Which transition does your child find the most difficult?
