☀️ Funerals in extreme heat ☀️

The hot weather this week has been challenging for everyone, and attending a funeral in high temperatures can be especially difficult when you’re already carrying the weight of grief.

Whether you’re attending a service, gathering at the graveside, or spending time with family and friends afterwards, please remember to take care of yourself and those around you.

Here are a few gentle reminders:
💧 Stay hydrated
Bring a bottle of water with you and take regular sips throughout the day. Grief can be physically draining, and the heat can affect you more quickly than you realise.
👗 Dress comfortably
Light, breathable clothing is perfectly appropriate. Looking after your wellbeing is important, and comfort can help you focus on what truly matters.
🌳 Find some shade
If you’re attending an outdoor service or burial, don’t hesitate to move into the shade whenever you need to. A few moments out of the sun can make a big difference.
☺️ Take a moment if you need one
Funerals can be overwhelming emotionally, and the heat can add to that. If you’re feeling unwell, lightheaded, or simply need a breather, it’s okay to step away for a few minutes.
🥰 Look out for one another
Check in on elderly relatives, children, and anyone who may be finding the day particularly difficult. Small acts of kindness can mean so much.

Funerals are never easy, and during periods of extreme heat it's important to be gentle with yourself. There is no right or wrong way to navigate a difficult day – just do what you need to stay safe and comfortable.

If you're attending a service with us, please know that our team is always here to help. Our dedicated funeral directors and funeral team go above and beyond every single day to care for the families we are privileged to support. Whether you need assistance, a seat in the shade, a glass of water, or simply a quiet moment, please don't hesitate to ask. Your comfort and wellbeing are just as important to us as every other aspect of the care we provide.
Grief asks a lot of us.

Please remember to show yourself the same care and kindness you would offer to others. 💛

This week our Funeral Director Victoria enjoyed some time at Mill View Care Home in Bradford painting pebbles with the residents.

Victoria loves to spend time in our local community and is often available to get involved and support community projects by lending a helping hand.

Supporting residents in care homes is something Victoria is very passionate about having worked in them herself and loves to see the residents smile 😊

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Maureen Mason, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

Maureen's service will take place at Shay Grange Crematorium on Friday 31st July @ 2:15pm.

Maureen was born in Cragg Lane Shipley on the 19th of June 1939 and passed away in Shipley on the 14th July 2026. She was the only daughter of William and Lilly.

Maureen was known well as the Landlady of the Bradford Hotel, Valley Road for over 25 years of loyal service.

She had many hobbies but specifically loved a game of Bingo and never refused an invite for a shopping spree.

Maureen was the typical Matriarch at the head of family, her life was for her family. She was a funny, caring lady with very dry sense of humour. She loved life!

Her vibrant spirit shone through, but her true happy place was being with her nearest and dearest.

Maureen leaves behind her only Child Sally Ann and her Son-in law Tony. Her wonderful Grandchildren Christopher, James, Leasha and Robert. Maureen was further blessed with her Great Grandson William who she had an amazing bond with. Also her 'Adopted' Grand Daughters Mary-Ann and Amy, her Brothers, Stephen & Carl, Sister-in-laws Shirley, Denise and Julie plus her many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Maureen will now be re-united with her late brothers Kenneth, Mick, Barry and Billy.

Maureen was full of life, she always put others before herself having the kindest heart and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

If you wish to make a donation in the memory of Maureen it will be for the benefit of Marie Curie & Forget-Me-Not.

The family would like to invite for refreshments after the service at The Saltaire Bar, 70 Saltaire Road, Shipley, BD18 3HN.
