Recovery Coordinator Rose recently joined Ark House Rehab Ltd's 'In Recovery' podcast to discuss the worrying rise in recreational ketamine use and how New Vision Bradford is supporting those affected.

🎙️The episode is now live - listen here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2555615/episodes/19511109

THE SURGE OF KETAMINE ADDICTION

Today you can listen to an important conversation on the brand new episode of IN RECOVERY - THE ARK HOUSE podcast.

The team visited the alcohol and drug service New Vision, in Bradford to speak about the drastic rise of Ketamine addiction in the UK.

Usage among 16-24 year old's has trippled since 2016 and is now more more common than M**A and nitrous oxide. NHS data shows a 45 per cent increase in Ketamine related hospital admissions over the last 5 years.

Rose is a recovery coordinator in the Outreach and Rough Sleeping team and speaks to Richard about a vital campaign being run by New Vision Bradford called The Ket Effect. This aims to challenge the misconceptions that Ketamine only becomes a problem when use reaches the extreme.

You can watch the film for The Ket Effect, made by New Vision right here.

💙 Change starts with honest conversations.

It isn’t easy, but when we feel able to talk openly about the role alcohol is playing in our lives – without fear or judgement – positive change becomes possible.

We’re ending with an honest account from Recovery Coordinator, Shabz, who shares of how asking for help enabled him to reach a place where he feels valued and worthy.

One of the best things we can do to support a friend, colleague or family member who may be struggling with alcohol is to create a space for honest conversations. By normalising discussions about alcohol, we can help people feel supported, healthier and more able to make positive changes.

Thank you to everyone for joining us this week.

If you are concerned about your own drinking, or someone else’s, New Vision Bradford is here to help whenever you’re ready to reach out.

Checking our drinking should just be as normal as the regular checks we have on our eyesight, teeth and blood pressure - why not our drinking?

For Recovery Coordinator, Katie, reflecting on her alcohol intake and limiting it to social situations only, has helped her to achieve some incredible improvements to her to her physical health and wellbeing.

What positive changes could you make that your future self will thank you for?

Sunny weekends are often the times when alcohol takes centre stage, putting pressure on us to drink more than we’d like.

Taking a moment to reflect on your drinking habits and understanding your risk level could be the first step towards positive change.

For our Senior Clinical Administrator, Sharee, that change came when she decided to put her health first. By making a few small changes, she discovered she could still enjoy socialising while also protecting her wellbeing too.

Today, we’re handing over to two of our amazing volunteers!

For Alex and Gill, sobriety has brought a renewed sense of peace, balance and purpose. Since stopping drinking, both have joined New Vision Bradford’s volunteer programme and are now making a real difference within our service - Alex with Flourish and Gill with the Rough Sleeper Team.

It’s great to see them using their lived experience to support others, showing that recovery is possible and that there is life beyond alcohol!

You don’t have to make big changes to your drinking to start seeing the benefits. Even cutting back a little can improve sleep, mood, energy, and relationships.

For Team Manager Mark, finding ways to socialise and make plans that don’t always revolve around alcohol has helped him reduce his drinking. As a result, he’s noticed positive changes in other areas of his life.

Another great FREE tool is Alcohol Change UK ’s 'Check your drinking' quiz. It can help you build a clearer picture of your drinking patterns, identify potential risks and consider what, if anything, you’d like to do next.

Last night, our Area Manager, Sean, attended the West Yorkshire Police District Commander Awards Evening – an event dedicated to recognising the outstanding work, passion and commitment of officers, partners and members of the public across the district.

We are incredibly proud to share that Sean, alongside colleagues from the Homeless Outreach Partnership and Bradford City Neighbourhood Policing Team, was presented with the District Commander’s Commendation.

Their citation read:

“This exceptional multi agency effort not only prevented severe harm but also demonstrated exemplary problem solving, innovation and partnership cohesion at a time of acute risk. It reflects the very best of Bradfords collaborative approach to safeguarding vulnerable people and protecting the wider community."

Congratulations to everyone involved on this well-deserved recognition. 👏
