💪 You’ve Probably Heard of Reformer Pilates… But What Makes It So Good?

Reformer Pilates has become increasingly popular, and for good reason! It offers a controlled, adaptable way to exercise that can help you become stronger, more flexible and more confident in how your body moves.

At C-Physio, there’s an important difference. Our Reformer Pilates sessions are physio-led and guided by APPI-trained physiotherapists, combining Pilates with expert knowledge of movement and rehabilitation.

Reformer Pilates can help you:

✔️ Build core strength and stability
✔️ Improve flexibility and joint mobility
✔️ Strengthen muscles using controlled resistance
✔️ Improve balance, coordination and body awareness
✔️ Support recovery following injury
✔️ Build overall fitness and stamina

The Reformer’s adjustable resistance also means exercises can be tailored to your body, ability and goals, whether you’re looking to improve your fitness or need additional support following an injury.

☀️ Summer’s Here… and So Are the Summer Injuries!

Longer days and warmer weather often mean more time spent walking, running, cycling, gardening, playing sport and generally enjoying the outdoors.

And while being active is great for our physical and mental wellbeing, a sudden increase in activity can sometimes leave our bodies feeling the effects!

Some of the problems physiotherapists commonly see during the summer months include:

🏃 Muscle strains and sprains
🦵 Knee pain from running, walking and sport
🎾 Tennis and golfer’s elbow
🚴 Back, neck and knee pain from cycling
🌿 Back and shoulder pain after gardening or DIY
🦶 Ankle sprains and foot pain
🏊 Shoulder problems from swimming

The good news is that an injury doesn’t have to mean giving up the activities you enjoy.

At C-Physio, our experienced physiotherapists can assess what’s causing your pain or discomfort and create a personalised treatment and rehabilitation plan to help you recover, rebuild strength and get moving confidently again.

So keep enjoying everything summer has to offer and, if an ache, pain or injury is getting in the way, C-Physio is here to help. 💪

🚗 Long car journeys causing back pain?

Summer often means more time on the road, whether you’re heading off on holiday, visiting family or enjoying a day out.

But sitting in the same position for a long journey can leave your back feeling stiff, uncomfortable and ready for a good stretch by the time you arrive!

A few simple habits can help:

✔️ Take regular breaks and get out of the car to move around
✔️ Adjust your seat so your back feels comfortably supported
✔️ Avoid sitting with bulky items in your pockets
✔️ Gently move and stretch when you stop
✔️ Don’t ignore pain that continues after your journey

If back pain is becoming a regular problem, C-Physio can help.

Our experienced physiotherapists can assess what may be contributing to your pain and provide a personalised combination of advice, treatment and exercises to help improve your movement and keep you active.

🌿 Your journey should be part of the adventure, not something you have to recover from!

🌞 Maintaining your physiotherapy during the heatwave

The recent hot weather can make it tempting to skip exercise altogether. However, if you're recovering from an injury or managing a long-term condition, maintaining your physiotherapy routine is an important part of your recovery, as long as you do so safely.

Here are a few simple ways to exercise more comfortably during the heat:

• Stay well hydrated before, during and after your exercises.
• Try to complete your routine early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.
• Exercise indoors where possible, in a cool, well-ventilated room.
• Wear lightweight, breathable clothing to help keep your body cool.
• Listen to your body. If you begin to feel dizzy, lightheaded or unwell, stop exercising and rest in a cooler place.

Recovery is all about consistency, and even a shorter or gentler session can help you stay on track towards your goals.

If you'd like advice on adapting your physiotherapy programme during the hot weather, our friendly team is always here to help.
