🏖️☀️ Day 1 of our Holiday at Home Week! ☀️🏖️

We kicked off our Holiday at Home Week with a wonderful morning of sand sensory and seaside memories.

Our residents explored seaside shells, many of which have been kindly brought in by members of staff over the years from their own trips to the coast. We use these shells to encourage reminiscence, sparking conversations about seaside holidays our residents enjoyed as children and younger adults.

We then brought the beach experience even closer to home with some sand. Joan loved the feeling of sand on her feet! It was lovely to hear the different memories and stories that the sights, textures and feel of the seaside brought back.

We finished off with some seaside themed arts and crafts and a good old fashioned game of Hook-a-Duck! 🦆🎨 Things became surprisingly competitive, with lots of laughter along the way!

A couple of our residents told us it reminded them of visiting funfairs when they were younger! exactly the kind of happy memories we hoped our Holiday at Home Week would bring back.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, our lovely donkeys will no longer be able to visit us tomorrow as planned.

Don’t worry though, they will be coming to visit us at a later date, and we’ll keep you all posted once we have a new date confirmed!

But every cloud has a silver lining… because we now have some very special fluffy visitors coming instead… ALPACAS! 🦙🦙🥰

We’re so excited to welcome them and we’re sure our residents are going to absolutely love meeting them!

There's nothing quite like fresh flowers to brighten everyone's day! 🌸🌼

We have been displaying beautiful hand picked flowers from our gardens throughout the home, adding a splash of colour and a lovely fresh scent for everyone to enjoy.

A special thank you to our wonderful resident Avril and her lovely daughter, Leanne, who helped arrange the flowers into some beautiful displays. It was a lovely activity to share together, and the finished arrangements look absolutely fantastic.

Thank you both for helping make our home feel even more welcoming and cheerful! 💐💕

Holiday at Home Week at Elderthorpe!

We're excited to share our Holiday at Home Week with our wonderful residents! 🎉

From 10th–14th August, we'll be bringing the seaside to Elderthorpe with sand sensory play, hook-a-duck, donkey visits, an ice cream man, music, dancing, popcorn, outdoor games, a fish & chip lunch, and even a trip to Morecambe!

We can't wait to make lots of happy memories together and will be sharing plenty of photos throughout the week, so keep an eye on our page! ❤️

We're really looking forward to our upcoming day trip to Morecambe with our wonderful residents!

A day by the seaside with lunch, a stroll along the promenade, a visit to Happy Mount Park and, of course, an ice cream or two. We can't wait to make some more special memories together.

And that's not all... 👀

🎉🥳 Celebrating birthdays at Elderthorpe! 🥳🎉

We love making our residents feel extra special on their birthdays. From waking up to decorations, a gift and a personalised birthday card, to finishing the day with a delicious birthday cake, we do our best to make each celebration one to remember.

The best part is seeing everyone come together. Our residents and staff all join in the celebrations, creating wonderful memories and plenty of smiles 💙

Avril, Dawn and Phil made the most of the lovely weather with a trip to the House Of Bread. They enjoyed sitting outside with a drink and a tasty treat, soaking up the sunshine and having good conversations.

It's always nice to get out and about in the local community, enjoying familiar places and making the most of days like these.☕🍰💛

💙 Building confidence one step at a time 💙

We’re planning a special trip to Morecambe soon, but one of our lovely residents, Pam, was feeling a little apprehensive about such a long journey to the seaside.

Wanting to help build Pam’s confidence, our wonderful carer, Shannon enjoyed a lovely long walk to Costa Coffee, where they treated themselves to a vanilla latte and a delicious caramel slice.

Over coffee, Pam shared wonderful memories of her younger years, including the many happy times she spent attending ballroom dances. It was a lovely opportunity to reminisce and enjoy each other’s company.

The pair then took the bus back to the home, where Pam proudly shared how much she had enjoyed the experience. She told Shannon she hadn’t been on a bus for over 20 years and couldn’t believe how much she’d enjoyed it!

Thanks to Shannon’s kindness, patience and reassurance, Pam has now gained the confidence to join us on our upcoming trip to Morecambe. She thanked Shannon for taking the time to support her, and Pam has agreed she would be happy to go out and about again.

Moments like these show that person centred care is about so much more than meeting needs , it’s about building confidence, creating meaningful experiences, and helping people continue to enjoy life to the fullest. ❤️
