Reflection from this morningβs Social π
This morning I attended the Social hosted by the at University of Bradford.
It was a privilege to be there wearing a few hats close to my heart β as an , representing at , and as founder of Women's Sphere.
We shared stories, experiences, and listened deeply. One thing that really stayed with me and saddened me was hearing how language barriers affect people living with dementia.
To hear that people who need an interpreter or translator are pushed to the back of the waiting list β it was really hard to hear.
How can people be treated this way? Dementia is already so isolating, so confusing, so frightening. When you add a language barrier and no one to translate your needs, your pain, your fear β that isolation becomes even deeper.
Everyone deserves timely, dignified and compassionate care, no matter what language they speak. Language support is not an extra, itβs essential care.
Thank you to everyone who spoke so honestly today. These conversations are needed. We must keep advocating for equality in dementia care.
