Vesak is one of the most important Buddhist festivals. It is also known as Wesak or Buddha Day. It is also a time to reflect on his teachings and what it means to be Buddhist
Vesak Day is the celebration of Buddha’s birth and enlightenment. It is observed across the world on the day of the full moon between May/June, depending upon the lunar calendar. On Vesak Day, temples are lit up with lamps (symbolizing the radiance of knowledge and awareness), flowers are offered to statues of Buddha (symbolizing purity and love), and charity events are organized for the poor and homeless (embodying peace and compassion).

We wish all our Sikh patients, carers and staff a very Happy Vaisakhi on 14.4.26. Please join us on the main concourse on 22.4.26 to celebrate this festival with us.

Vaisakhi represents the establishment of the Khalsa Panth (Nation) by the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699. A principle passed on by Guru Gobind Singh Ji was recognising the whole human race as one – regardless of faith, background or gender. For many Vaisakhi represents the birth of the Sikh identity.

For Christians, this is Holy Week (29 March-5 April 2026). The week starts with Palm Sunday, leading to Maudy Thursday (remembering Jesus Christ’s Last Supper) then Good Friday when Christ died on the cross, and ending with Easter Sunday (5 April) remembering Christ’s rising back to life. The week is a time for deep reflection and ending with great celebration.
We wish all our colleagues, patients, and families joy and peace at Easter.

Join us for Holy Communion on Wednesday 1 April at 12.30pm to 1pm in the BRI Chapel and Easter songs on the Main Concourse at BRI, led by Bradford Chorale on Thursday 2 April at 12noon to 1pm.
