The number of women aged 40 and over receiving NHS hormone replacement therapy (HRT) prescribing in England has more than doubled since 2020/21 latest figures show.

An Amber Heat Health Alert is in place across the East of England, including Essex, from today until 9pm on Friday 14 August 2026.

During the high temperatures, it is important to take simple steps to stay safe and well.

Keep well by:
💧 Drinking plenty of water
🏠 Keeping your home as cool as possible
🌳 Avoiding direct sun during the hottest part of the day
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Checking in on older relatives, neighbours and friends
⚠️ Knowing the signs of heat exhaustion

🫁 Lung cancer screening is saving lives across Essex. 🫁

Since the programme began, 417 lung cancers have been identified through lung cancer screening.
Even more importantly, 76% were found at stage 1 or stage 2, when treatment is more likely to be successful.

‼️ If you're invited for an NHS lung health check, please don't ignore it ‼️

The check can help find lung cancer before symptoms develop, giving you the best possible chance of successful treatment if cancer is present.

Less than half of adults confident spotting trustworthy health information online.

In response, NHS Essex is inviting residents to help shape a new public campaign designed to help people find trustworthy health information online and make informed decisions about their health.

The survey takes around five minutes to complete. All responses are anonymous and will help shape future communications, resources and support to help residents across Essex access trusted health information.
