If my now therapist self went back 20 years to be assessed at college, I’d fail my assessments!
The therapist I am today would be perceived as having “bad habits” or “not financially productive” ~ that one irritates me the most! I’d have to meet “industry standards” of working to strict times, to prepare me for working for an employer, put things as a priority that weren’t my priority…… which is exactly why I took the self employed direction, so I could offer the craft I love, in my own interpretation, my own expression.
Some of my so called “bad” habits….
✨I don’t watch the clock! I can’t work to an hour, I simply cannot squeeze in caring for someone holistically into a 60 minute window, and I haven’t for a long time, because I get to choose, it’s why every appointment has additional time. Honestly, this applies to most treatment times, because I always want it to go on, I can’t help it, the feeling I get from seeing another so deeply relaxed when it was so deeply needed is something I can’t put into words, it must be felt.
✨I genuinely don’t want you to leave, I’m just as happy to sit in that post treatment conversation as you are…… though I have to manage this considerately as obviously I have other lovely clients visiting too, but it really is hard to wave you goodbye, and on the days when you’re my last client, I happily sit and chat longer, because I want to and I’d always let you know if I can’t, and simply because I can, sometimes we might be in treatment far longer than planned, because it worked that way that day, and I see nothing wrong in that, and I’m so fortunate to have the most wonderful clients who acknowledge and respect this, it’s why our energies connect.
✨ I can’t follow regimented routines, because that would be treating you all the same, and every person, every treatment, requires a different flow, even in the most subtle ways.
✨I share friendships with clients, because professionalism doesn’t have to mean not being human.
I’m sure there’s more! A couple of things happened today that inspired this post. It’s been a beautiful day filled with aromatherapy facials and massage. Thank you, I am so grateful for another week spent in your company 🙏🏼
