💙 World Diabetes Day — 14 November 💙

This 14 November, is World Diabetes Day and raising awareness about diabetes — how it affects people, and how to spot the signs early.

Here’s what you should know:
🔹 You may experience symptoms of type 2 diabetes such as feeling very tired, peeing more than usual, being constantly thirsty or losing weight without trying.
🔹 You’re at higher risk if you’re overweight, inactive, or have a family history of diabetes.
🔹 Even if you don’t have symptoms, you might still be at risk — and that means now is a good time to check in with us.
🔹 Diabetes UK and the NHS emphasise the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and proper management so people can live well with diabetes.
🔹 The global theme this year centres around “Diabetes & Wellbeing” — highlighting not only physical health but the emotional and mental impact of living with diabetes.
---
📞 What you can do now
If you’re aged 40–74 (and don’t already have diabetes) consider booking a health check with us or at your pharmacy.
If you already have diabetes, make sure you attend your regular reviews and stay in touch — we’re here to support you.
And if you’ve noticed any of the symptoms above, speak to us sooner rather than later.

We are Diabetes UK, the leading charity for people living with diabetes in the UK. Our vision is a world where diabetes can do no harm.

đź”” Protect Yourself Against Shingles đź””

Did you know there’s a vaccine available on the NHS that can significantly reduce your chance of getting shingles and the serious complications that go with it?
Here’s what you need to know:

âś… The vaccine is free on the NHS for:
• People who turned 65 on or after 1 September 2023.
• Anyone aged 70–79 who hasn’t yet had the vaccine.
• People aged 18 and over with a severely weakened immune system.

✅ You’ll usually be offered two doses, given 6-12 months apart (or shorter interval if immune-system is weakened).
✅ If you’ve had shingles before, the vaccine still matters — it can help prevent a repeat and reduce severity.
✅ The vaccine is safe. Most people experience only mild side effects such as soreness at the injection site, headache or tiredness — which pass in a few days.

📞 Next Steps
If you think you’re eligible and haven’t heard from us, please contact the surgery to book your appointment.
