Course for parents, grandparents and carers

This course is specifically designed to give all those in a non-professional capacity the confidence to cope with some of the possible situations you may find yourself in. The content will be taught using a combination of presentation slides and practical hands on skills using the manikins.

*The course does not certificate you for Ofstead early years requirements.

Today is National Burn Awareness Day.

Approximately 35,000 children are burnt every year by hot drinks!
Please keep hot drinks out of reach of children, including kettle cables!

If you're child is over 1 yr old and has swallowed a button battery:
- urgently get them to a&e. - give 1-2 teaspoons of honey every 5 mins until battery removed, to help reduce tissue damage!

Remember always keep batteries out of reach and be vigilant with objects that contain batteries!!

New guideline recommends starting honey treatment at home and visiting emergency room immediately to prevent damage.

Cool burns for 20 mins, don't apply creams or lotions, seek medical advice!

All burns should be treated with 20 minutes if cool RUNNING water as soon as possible. Clothing should be removed. Nothing else should be applied to the wound, no creams, just water. Then seek medical attention.
