🌟 At Blink we offer advanced eye imaging services including Optomap - ultra-widefield retinal imaging...

Your retina (located in the back of your eye) is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases (e.g. stroke, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes) can also be seen in the retina. Early signs of these conditions can show on your retina long before you notice any changes to your vision or feel pain.

While eye exams generally include a look at the front of the eye to evaluate health and prescription changes, a thorough screening of the retina is critical to verify that your eye is healthy. The Optomap scan captures and produces a 200° panoramic digital image that covers up to 87% of your retina in less than half a second. This is much more advanced than traditional imaging which only allowed us to see 15% of your retina.

She has officially passed her Independent Prescribing exams! 🥳

This means Heather can now manage, treat and directly prescribe medications for a wider range of eye conditions right here in the Blink practice - helping you get specialist care faster without the need for an NHS hospital referral.

Back on the road for a brilliant cause! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️✨

Remember our amazing patients Kevin and Linda? Last time, they cycled 900km to Santiago in memory of their friend Pat - and now, at 74 years young, they’re hitting the trail for their fifth Camino!

Starting on their 52nd wedding anniversary, they’ll be tackling over 300km along the Coastal Camino Portuguese to raise vital funds for Strathcarron Hospice ❤️

Strathcarron holds a very special place in our hearts at Blink for the compassionate, incredible care they provide to local families when they need it most. We are so proud to support Kevin and Linda once again with a donation toward their goal (and some trusty eyewear to tackle the Portuguese sunshine!). 🕶️☀️

It’s an incredible sight... but your eyes need proper protection! 🌘🕶️

With the solar eclipse coming up this Wednesday , we wanted to share a friendly reminder from Team Blink - never look directly at the sun, even during a partial eclipse! ☀️⚠️

Looking straight at the sun, even for just a few seconds, can cause permanent damage to your retina (a condition known as solar retinopathy). And since the retina has no pain receptors, you won't even feel it happening!

Here’s some do's and don'ts for the solar eclipse

❌ Don't view the eclipse through standard sunglasses - even dark or polarised lenses do not filter out harmful intense UV rays.

❌ Don't peek through cameras, binoculars or telescopes without specialist solar filters fitted to the front lens - the optics magnify the light ray intensity.

✅ Do use certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses if you plan to look towards the sun

✅ Do use an indirect viewing methods like a simple pinhole card projector or even using a collander - both fun and completely safe ways to watch the moon pass over the sun with kids. See the link in the comments for how to 👇
