✈️ A Birthday Fit for a Hero – Eddie Turns 102! 🎂❤️

We had a vision to do something truly BIG for our wonderful Eddie’s very special 102nd birthday… and what an unforgettable day it turned out to be.

Eddie served proudly in the Royal Air Force from 1942 to 1947, and in 1946 he became part of an incredible chapter in aviation history. Eddie was selected to take part in Operation Lancaster, when a fleet of 16 Avro Lancaster bombers toured America — an experience and achievement that has remained a very special part of his remarkable story.

So, as Eddie approached his 102nd birthday, we had a dream: to bring the RAF to Eddie and give him the recognition and celebration he so richly deserved.

We were completely overwhelmed by the response and the kindness shown by everyone who wanted to be part of making our vision a reality.

And the best part? Eddie had absolutely no idea! ❤️

On the day, Eddie was escorted into his surprise celebration by a military piper and drummer, where he was greeted by RAF personnel, friends and well-wishers who had gathered to honour this incredible gentleman.

There were cards, gifts, beautiful cakes and so many wonderful surprises. Eddie also received special recognition from the RAF, along with a very special VIP invitation to RAF Coningsby — something that meant so much to him.

The celebrations were made even more memorable when BBC Look North joined us to interview Eddie and capture part of his extraordinary story.

To see Eddie surrounded by so much love, respect and appreciation at 102 years young was incredibly moving. There were smiles, laughter, memories and more than a few emotional moments throughout the day.

It was everything we had dreamed of for Eddie — and so much more.

To every single person who sent a card, brought a gift or cake, attended the celebration, helped behind the scenes, shared Eddie’s story or simply helped make him feel as special as he truly is — thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

You all played a part in creating a day that Eddie, and all of us at Orchard Court, will never forget.

Happy 102nd Birthday, Eddie. 🎂✈️

A remarkable gentleman, an RAF veteran and a very special part of our Orchard Court family. ❤️

It was my pleasure to attend with Cllr Carl Sherwood my first 102nd birthday party today. Mr Eddie Instone, who previously owned a shop in Brigg for over 30 years, celebrated his 102nd birthday. Eddie served in the RAF, and it was great to see a number of serving RAF personnel and veterans visit his birthday party. Orchard Court Care Home hosted the party and, as a long term resident, it was clear to see how their excellent staff care for Eddie and many other fellow residents. What a remarkable achievement having reached 102, having committed a life to serving the public through his business in the town and in the RAF.

There was something extra special about our baking session when lovely Harper & our cook Ollie joined our residents to make some delicious homemade scones.

Harper lovingly helped to weigh out the ingredients, mix the dough, roll it out and cut the scones, working side by side with our residents. It was truly heartwarming to watch the two generations come together, sharing smiles, conversation and plenty of baking fun. 🥰

Of course, the best part was getting to enjoy the finished results! For tea, our residents tucked into fully loaded cheese scones, served warm with butter, bacon and even more cheese! 🧀🥓😋

A wonderful afternoon filled with baking, laughter and precious intergenerational moments. permission obtained to display photographs

Our residents enjoyed armchair exercises with a difference this week 💪💕

Our lovely Brooke’s daughter, Harper, took charge and got everyone moving with a fun game of catch before Lulu led the residents through some gentle stretches and exercises.

The residents absolutely loved having Harper join in, bringing lots of smiles, laughter and extra energy to the session. 🥰

Intergenerational activities are so special, giving our residents the opportunity to connect with younger generations, share laughter and enjoy meaningful moments together. It was wonderful to see everyone engaging, encouraging one another and, most importantly, having fun! ❤️

A big thank you to Harper and Lulu for making today’s exercise session such an enjoyable one permission obtained to display photographs
