Calder Safety Solutions joins the West Burton Solar Project
We are pleased to share that Calder Safety Solutions has recently been appointed by Sky Ray Engineering to provide CDM Principal Designer and CDM advisory support for the West Burton Solar Project.
This is a significant renewable-energy development. West Burton is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) extending across locations in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. The proposals provide for up to 480MW of renewable electricity generation, potentially meeting the equivalent annual electricity requirements of approximately 144,000 homes, with connection to existing National Grid infrastructure at the former West Burton Power Station.
The project secured development consent from the Secretary of State on 24 January 2025, and the West Burton Solar Project Order subsequently came into force on 15 February 2025. Since consent was granted, further surveys and pre-construction planning have continued, with preparations for construction progressing during 2026.
For Calder Safety Solutions, the appointment represents an important addition to our work across major renewable-energy and infrastructure projects.
Our involvement includes CDM 2015 Principal Designer coordination, Pre-Construction Information, Safety by Design, design-risk management, designer coordination, interface management and CDM assurance.
Projects of this scale demonstrate why effective Principal Designer involvement extends well beyond document review. Foreseeable risks need to be identified early, multiple designers and contractors need to be effectively coordinated, complex project interfaces need to be understood, and health and safety considerations need to remain integrated into design decisions as the scheme develops.
We are proud to be supporting Sky Ray Engineering and the wider project team as the West Burton Solar Project progresses towards construction.
