Hearing and Tinnitus Care

Hearing and Tinnitus Care Hearing Care the Way It Should Be. Independent hearing care and specialist tinnitus services. I launched Hearing and Tinnitus Care to make it happen.

I’m Sally Jackson and I’m an audiologist and registered hearing aid dispenser. Since losing my own hearing 20 years ago - and experiencing various providers including the NHS - I have wanted to do things differently. My slogan “Hearing Care the Way It Should Be” defines everything I do. You and your hearing come first, and as a customer you will be valued long after that initial purchase of hearin

g aids. If your hearing aids need a part replacing, you’ll find that you are a priority over new enquiries. If you struggle with tinnitus, you’ll be told that I can help, and I will help. If you need a home visit because you can’t get to clinic, you will find it can be done. If you want to text instead of call, it can be done. If you need advice on a new hearing problem or situation, you’ll receive it. You’ll notice the difference in my service from the moment you first get in touch. If you have had issues in the past and feel you are a ‘difficult’ customer, then please come and see me. Find out how well you can hear and how happy you can be when someone takes the time to get it right.

Lovely to see our favourite gentleman meeting Claudia Winkleman, and I am proud to be providing sound quality which makes the piano sound rich and true. It is no easy thing to make music sound good though a hearing aid, and musicians are quite rightly the most tricky customers. Frank, however, is an utter gem - and he can be seen live Tues-Sat evenings at the D&P!😀

Something we don’t often talk about with tinnitus distress, is that after habituation* we can “hit the wall”.

I travelled out of area a couple of years ago to do a private Active Habituation** consultation for someone with extremely severe tinnitus. The patient worked with me that day and improvement was great at follow up. We were both delighted at the change.

Sometimes though, the pattern of events that dragged you into tinnitus distress can happen again. 2 years later, a period of extreme, prolonged stress caused a spike in the patient’s tinnitus signal. They started to doubt, thinking they were back to square one. This uncertainty fuelled the tinnitus spike, and set up a feedback loop.

Tinnitus -> anxiety
Anxiety -> tinnitus

These are the circumstances which usually bring someone to my door in the first place. Luckily, the patient kept my number and we did a refresher last week.

If you hit the wall, following a bereavement or other personal circumstances, do not despair. It is normal to see a spike in your tinnitus during times of stress.

If you find yourself stuck in a negative loop, where the tinnitus signal is persistent and you are in despair, I will happily offer either a first time or a refresher session to get you on track.

No one has to feel that tinnitus is ruining their life. Once you understand it, it rapidly loses its power over you. When it loses its power, you break out of the feedback loop and start to habituate.

It’s rewarding work, and I’m happy to travel in Yorkshire for severe cases, with bespoke pricing. But anyone can access a one-off session via clinic visit or online appointment.

Copper wire networks are being switched off. Great news for hard of hearing people- read my new blog post explaining phone call quality and why it matters.

I’m delighted that the copper cable phone network is being shut off! Hooray! Why? Because it used an old audio standard that carried about half of human speech frequencies….

New blog post about a patient who has had to push to receive compensation for the tinnitus he acquired by head injury.

These cases make me incredibly cross, as people do not understand tinnitus and the devastating effects on a person’s life.

He was in a road accident 1-2 years ago, and he was not at fault. The other driver’s insurer offered a payout for car and general damages,
