Have you ever left a treatment or a sound journey feeling more tired than when you arrived?
Someone mentioned this to me recently after a soundjourney, and I wanted to gently reassure you, because it comes up more than you might think.
That tiredness isn't a sign something went wrong. It's often a sign your body has finally felt safe enough to let go.
Here's a little of what's happening underneath.
So much of our day is spent in a low hum of fight-or-flight. The sympathetic nervous system stays switched on, keeping us braced and alert. During Abhyanga or a sound journey, the body starts to shift into the parasympathetic state, the rest-and-repair mode where deep healing actually happens.
When your system finally comes out of that braced state, the body seizes the chance to do the repair work it has been putting off. That takes real energy, and afterwards you can feel wonderfully heavy and sleepy.
There's an emotional layer too.
In Ayurveda, many of the marma points we work with don't only support the body to detox. They can help release emotions that have been held in the tissues for a long time, things like old anger or sadness we've quietly been carrying. When those release, it's natural to feel tender, weepy or drained for a day or two.
So if you feel tired afterwards, here's how to support your body through it 🌿
Rest without guilt. Let yourself sleep early or lie down. This is the integration happening.
Drink plenty of warm water to support the body as it clears.
Keep things gentle and warm. Soups, cooked food, an early night.
Go easy on screens, caffeine and rushing about.
Let any emotions move through without forcing them away.
The tiredness usually softens within a day or two, and often you'll notice you feel clearer and more settled on the other side of it.
If you've felt this after a session with me and weren't sure why, I hope this brings some reassurance. Your body was simply doing exactly what it needed to.
