For Mental Health Awareness Week, we've been asking people what action they take to support their mental health. This is what one of our colleagues had to say.

There's a genuinely useful tip in here about heart rate and anxiety. And a good reminder that community — whether that's a gym, a club, a volunteer group — gives us something we all need: a sense of purpose and a reason to show up.

Our Brighton & Hove Recovery College offers free courses designed to support your wellbeing, build confidence and explore new skills in a supportive, inclusive space.

Getting together, moving, and being part of your community can make a real difference to how we feel. And that is exactly what this year's Mental Health Awareness Week theme, Action, is about.

Join UOK Mental Health & Wellbeing and Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation for a free football and wellbeing session to mark the start of Mental Health Awareness Week (11-17 May).

When: Monday 11 May, 10am–12.30pm
Where: Brighton Youth Centre Sports Hall
Cost: Free. No registration required. Just turn up.

Open to all, no football experience required.

Looking to learn practical ways to care for your mental health and wellbeing, and support your recovery?

Brighton & Hove Recovery College is hosting an open day where you can drop in, meet trainers and students, and find out what the College is all about. You’ll also be able to register your interest in upcoming courses and workshops, with Buddies (people with lived experience of mental health challenges) available on the day to offer support if needed.

📍Brighthelm Centre, Brighton BN1 1YD

Delivered in partnership with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Recovery College offers free, educational courses to support recovery from mental health challenges.

It’s open to anyone aged 18+ in Brighton & Hove with mental health support needs, as well as carers and people working in the sector. Courses are delivered in person, with some online options available.

Enrolments for the Summer term will begin on 29 April 2026.
