Sunrise, a field, a book, a favourite bevvie. Is there a better way to start a day?

Early mornings give me a chance to check over some of the structures they made the day before. It’s amazing why they learn and then do themselves in a couple of days. It’s also amazing how peaceful it is before they wake up. 🤣

Fun in the great outdoors. Is there anything better? We don’t think so. ❤️

I love watching what happens when children are simply given the space to get on with it. No pressure. No timetable packed to the minute. Just opportunities.

Some built things. Some helped cook. Some climbed. Some disappeared into imaginary worlds. Some just sat talking with new mates.

By the end of three days, our campers and day trippers weren’t really “the campers” anymore. They were just a little gang who’d looked after each other, laughed loads, got soaking wet and made memories they’ll hopefully remember for a long time.

I’m absolutely shattered.

Wouldn’t change a second of it. Thank you parents and carers for trusting your kids with us. We couldn’t imagine doing it with anyone else ❤️

I posted earlier that we were excited to read Story Wolves: Heads or Tales this week… and… it absolutely delivered.

Apart from me attempting a few questionable accents (my German apparently needs some work 🤣), the kids and adults were completely hooked.

The best bit? Complete silence. Not because we asked for it, but because everyone was so wrapped up in the adventure. Then, at the end of each chapter, everyone took turns deciding what happened next. We ended up reading it through a few times, with some brilliantly ridiculous plot twists.

It’s clever, imaginative, genuinely funny and gets everyone involved. One of those rare books that has the grown-ups just as invested as the kids.

Huge congratulations to Lucy Unwin and everyone at Story Wolves for creating such a wonderfully interactive, brilliantly engaging adventure.

If you’re after something that’ll keep the kids entertained over the summer (and give you an excuse to dust off your terrible accents 😅), I’d thoroughly recommend it.

I always talk about what we think the kids enjoyed… but we’re gonna talk about my favourite bit for a second. It’s now, the early morning. Sitting with my hot coffee, (thanks for the mug Majda !) as the sun comes up and there’s silence all around, apart from a woodpecker doing its thing, a Robyn twittering away, blackbirds making a ruckus and a few other tweets as the dawn soundtrack. Kids are asleep. This “silence” is the golden hour for me when out camping with kids. Bliss.

What a lovely day with a lovely bunch of children.

A few nervous faces arrived asking, “What are we doing today?”

It’s a funny concept for children to get their heads around when the answer is often, “Whatever you’d like.”

That’s the heart of Kids Adventurist. There isn’t a timetable to tick off or pressure to join every activity. Want to help build the rope bridge? Brilliant. Fancy making dinner? Come and stir the pot. Rather spend half an hour in a hammock watching the trees? That’s absolutely fine too.

It’s child-led. Always has been.

Tonight, after our day trippers went home, andwhile a couple of us grown-ups sat chatting as the moon came up, we noticed a group of children gathered around a red lantern they’d turned into a pretend campfire, completely lost in their own stories and… yep, fart noises… it happened, they’re kids 🤣.

Then one of us looked at the time.

10pm.

We’d all forgotten the time because everyone was exactly where they wanted to be.

Time really does fly when you’re having Wild. Free. Fun.
