You can't control the cards. You can control how you play them. ♠️
Poker is full of uncertainty.
You can make the right decision and lose.
You can make the wrong decision and win.
You can play your best and still have a losing session.
That's poker.
The mistake is spending your mental energy trying to control things that were never yours to control in the first place.
Instead, bring your attention back to your circle of control:
♠️ Your preparation
♠️ Your decisions
♠️ Your focus
♠️ Your emotional response
♠️ Your attitude
♠️ How you respond to the next hand
This is also a really useful principle outside of poker.

Control what you can. Accept what you can't. Keep moving forward.
And remember: letting go of an outcome doesn't mean you don't care.
It means you're putting your energy where it can actually make a difference.

Hypnotherapy can help with this, DM me for more info.

What's one thing you need to stop trying to control at the poker table?

Can't sleep before a big competition? You're definitely not the only one.

The problem can sometimes become the pressure to sleep:

"I need to sleep."
"I've only got 5 hours left."
"I'm going to be exhausted tomorrow."
"I'm going to play badly."

And suddenly you're monitoring your sleep instead of allowing yourself to rest.

The goal isn't to force yourself unconscious.

It's to reduce the pressure and remind your brain that you're safe, you're prepared and you don't need to solve tomorrow tonight.

And remember, one imperfect night's sleep doesn't automatically mean an imperfect performance.

Your golf swing doesn't disappear because you had a restless night.

Your experience doesn't disappear.

Your ability doesn't disappear.

Trust what you've already practised. ⛳️🧠

This is one of the areas I work on with golfers through Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, helping reduce overthinking and performance pressure while building a calmer relationship with competition.

DM me if you'd like to know more about hypnosis for sleep and golf performance.

Real confidence can actually look surprisingly quiet.

It's not always being the loudest person in the room, having the strongest opinion or making sure everyone understands your point of view.

Sometimes confidence is simply being able to think:

"You don't agree with me... and that's okay."

You can listen without taking everything personally.
You can disagree without needing to win.
You can make a decision without needing everyone else's approval.

And the more comfortable you become with yourself, the less energy you need to spend convincing everyone else.

Confidence isn't needing everyone to like you.
It's being okay when they don't.

Mental strength doesn't mean playing perfect golf. ⛳️

In fact, some of the strongest golfers I've worked with are the ones who have learned to stop needing everything to go perfectly.

They accept the bad shots.
They stick to their routine.
They focus on the target.
They reset.
They trust their preparation.

And perhaps most importantly...

They don't let one shot dictate the next one.

The mental game is something you can practise too.

Which one of these do you think would make the biggest difference to your game?

These are also the kinds of skills we can work on through Solution Focused Hypnotherapy — building on what's already working, rehearsing successful responses through visualisation and helping you access a calmer, more focused state when it matters.

You can't control every shot, bounce, card or outcome on the playing field, table or course.

But you can practise how quickly you return your attention to the present moment.

That's what I mean by bounce-ability.

In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we look for the times you've already demonstrated the ability to cope, recover and perform well — then build on those existing strengths.

You don't need to become a different athlete. You need to get better at accessing the one you already are.

What happens after a bad shot is often more important than the bad shot itself.

Writing down three good things before bed is a simple habit I encourage all of my clients to practise.

But the real magic isn't in making a list.

It's in taking a moment to fully experience why those moments mattered.

When you slow down and reconnect with the feelings behind a positive experience, you're helping your brain pay more attention to what's already going well. Over time, this can make it easier to notice the positives, quieten the constant search for problems and go to bed with a calmer, more balanced mind.

Tiny moments count.

Conversation, walks, a nice meal, a stranger smiling back at us, playing with our pets.

Don't rush past them. Pause and feel them, deeply. Let your brain learn from them.

If you'd like to learn more about how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps retrain the brain towards calmer, healthier thinking, feel free to send me a message.

One of the biggest reasons golfers lose focus is because they're playing holes that haven't happened yet.
Standing on the 8th tee thinking...
"I need three pars to break 80."
Or...
"I can't afford another bogey."
The problem is, your brain can't play the 18th hole from the 8th tee.
It can only play this shot.
When your attention jumps ahead to the score, your thinking becomes cluttered. Pressure increases, tension creeps in and it becomes much harder to commit to the shot in front of you.
Elite performers know something different.
They trust that if they keep making good decisions, committing to each shot and staying present, the score will usually take care of itself.
The scoreboard is an outcome.
Your process is what gets you there.
If you'd like to train your brain to stay calmer, more focused and perform with greater consistency, send me a message to find out how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy could help.

Football fans don't stop believing after one bad result.

They know one game doesn't define an entire season.

Yet so many of us judge ourselves after one mistake, one poor round of golf, one awkward conversation or one setback.

Imagine if you supported yourself with the same loyalty, patience and encouragement you naturally give to your favourite team.

Self-belief isn't about expecting perfection.

It's about trusting yourself through the ups and the downs.

That's something we work on every week in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, helping you build a calmer, kinder and more resilient mindset, whether that's on the golf course, in sport or in everyday life.

“I really, really don't want to play golf today.”
I arrived this morning… and honestly, look at this. 🌧️
But I went anyway.
Because sometimes the best thing you can do for your brain is deliberately do something you don't want to do.
Every time you step outside your comfort zone and discover “actually, I can handle this,” you're giving your brain new evidence.
That's how resilience grows.
You don't always need to feel motivated before you take action.
Sometimes you take the action first…
and let your brain learn that you're capable of handling it.
Right. Let's get that kettle on! 😂
