Old blokes in blazers. This is what most people picture and we know it, because most of us pictured it too before we walked in.

Men and women in equal numbers. All ages, all backgrounds, anyone welcome.

We meet, we raise money for causes round here and we have a laugh doing it. That is genuinely the whole thing.

💙 DM us the word VISIT and come and see for yourself.

People sometimes ask where the money from our events actually goes. Fair question. Here are five answers.

Every cause is local, and every one was chosen by our own members.

- RISE, supporting people affected by domestic abuse

- Amaze, helping disabled children and their families

- YMCA Brighton, our newest Corporate member, working together to help people across Brighton and Hove to belong, contribute and thrive

- A Band of Brothers, helping young men aged 18 to 25 facing adversity take control of their lives

- Little Green Pig, helping children find their voice

Thank you to everyone who has come to one of our events, entered a raffle or won a prize on our raffle. What you want to know is that all the surplus goes to make a difference in our community to the charities listed above and many more.

A day full of community, connection, and celebration.
We hope that all the charities present, in particular, received interest in their charity and volunteering.

Thank you for such lovely feedback. We loved having you with us at the ROTARY FAMILY FESTIVAL and BIG HELP OUT 2026. What an amazing day we all had and we look forward to seeing all the photos being shared.

The most important aspect of the day was to promote volunteering and we hope that you all got more volunteers?

Thank you to everyone that made this day possible and especially to our unsung volunteers who worked solidly all day to make the event go seamlessly. Well done everyone.

Here at RISE, we are incredibly proud to have the support of a wide range of incredible partners including businesses, and community and charity organisations. We recently spoke to Linda Hodsgon, Chair of the Brighton and Hove Soiree Rotary Club Community Service team, who have supported RISE for a number of years.

For over 40 years, the Soirée Rotary Club- so called because they originally met in the evenings, after work - has brought together people who want to give back—locally, nationally, and globally. Today, the club has over 40 active members, with teams dedicated to community service, international outreach, and fundraising.

Linda says, “We’re very keen to support local charities. There are so many important organisations doing good work in Brighton. I think it was Robert Griffith—who used to be with Martlets—who first suggested we look into supporting RISE. When I started talking to people there, I realised the breadth of what RISE offered—especially the support on the phone lines, which really struck me.

Then, when the pandemic hit, it was clear RISE’s services would be in higher demand than ever. People were trapped at home with their abusers. We couldn’t fundraise in the usual ways, but we wanted to do something.

So the club launched the 28-Day Challenge in February 2021. Everyone picked their own challenge—running, knitting, painting—and raised money through sponsorship. One member even ran the distance from London to Paris over the course of the month! In the end, the Soirée Rotary Club raised around £4,000 for RISE that year.”

We asked Linda why the Club continues to support RISE - read here 👉 https://ow.ly/tm7E50WK7fw
