Improving Consistency in Health Surveillance

Consistency plays an important role in delivering effective health surveillance and safety-critical medical services.

Our occupational health technicians recently came together for a dedicated training and development day. The team reviewed the complete process, from confirming an individual's identity and carrying out an assessment to recording findings, arranging recalls and communicating outcomes.

Developing Consistent Standards

The day included learning and discussion around audiometry, noise-induced hearing loss, spirometry, skin surveillance, HAVS, musculoskeletal concerns and vision testing.

The team considered professional boundaries and the importance of remaining within their scope of practice. Knowing when findings need to be escalated to an Occupational Health Adviser or Occupational Health Physician is an important part of that process.

Consistency With an Individual Approach

Consistency doesn't mean treating everyone identically. It means applying the same high standards while responding appropriately to each individual.

Sensitive subjects such as weight must also be approached with care, dignity and clinical relevance.

Pippa Crouch: From Occupational Health Nurse to Business Leader

Behind Global OHS is the story of Pippa Crouch and a career built around occupational health, people and doing things properly.

What started more than a decade ago as what Pippa jokingly describes as the “Pippa Show” has developed considerably. In those early days, much of the responsibility sat with Pippa herself. Today, Global OHS has grown into a managed occupational health provision with a team of professionals supporting organisations and their employees.

Growing Alongside the Business

That transition has meant Pippa's own role has changed too.

Running an occupational health business isn't simply about clinical knowledge. As Global OHS has developed, Pippa has had to balance her clinical background with leadership, building a team and creating the systems needed to deliver a consistent service.

The result is a business that no longer depends on one person doing everything.

For Pippa, that journey also demonstrates how occupational health itself has developed. Employers increasingly recognise the importance of professional workplace health support, from health surveillance and fitness for work to case management and employee wellbeing.

More than ten years after the “Pippa Show” began, Pippa remains at the heart of Global OHS. The difference is that today there's a growing team alongside her.

Global OHS Team Day Out

Wow, What a Day!

Recently, 12 members of the Global OHS team swapped clinics, meetings and laptops for a well-earned change of pace as we headed into Brighton for our annual team day out.

Our first stop was a mid-morning caffeine top-up at Trading Post Coffee Roasters on Ship Street. Let’s be honest, no successful team day ever started without coffee and snacks!

From there, we headed over to the fantastic Pizza Pilgrims Brighton for a pizza-making masterclass. Who knew making pizza was such a complex process? It certainly gave me a whole new appreciation for ordering one from Domino’s Pizza (other pizza brands are, of course, available!).

Time to Reflect and Reconnect

In all seriousness, it was exactly what we needed. As we approach the end of another financial year, the day gave us a chance to stop, reflect, laugh and reconnect. It was also an opportunity to celebrate a year of growth, resilience and success.

We were equally delighted to welcome back the amazing Sara following the birth of her son last year. You have been hugely missed, and it was wonderful to have you back with us.

Another warm welcome goes to Jyoti, our new Occupational Health Advisor. She brings a wealth of experience to the team and we are delighted to have her with us.
