Why does birdsong calm us down?
It goes back thousands of years.
When our ancestors heard birds singing, it was a signal, the environment was safe. No predators nearby. No danger. Just nature, going about its day.
Silence, on the other hand, meant something was wrong.
Our nervous system learned to read birdsong as a cue for safety. And that ancient wiring is still inside us today.
So when you hear birds, your brain shifts out of high alert. Cortisol drops. Your breathing slows. Your body genuinely relaxes, not because you decided to, but because something deep in your biology said “we’re okay.”
One minute is all it takes.
