*TCM is a holistic method which looks at all aspects of the individual to work on energy channels (Qi) and pressure points, manipulating the body and encourage healing, rejuvenation and of course relaxation.

*Skinade - targeted solutions for better skin from within, utilising omega oils, marine collagen, and vitamins.

Not a diet you follow. A diet that follows you. 🍲

Western nutrition asks what’s in your food. Chinese medicine asks what your food does to you.

That’s the whole idea behind 药膳 (yàoshàn) aka “medicated diet.” It comes from an older principle: 药食同源 in which it means that medicine and food share the same source. For example, ginger, jujube, goji, yam, cinnamon - they sit on both sides of the line, as food and as medicine.

Which means there’s no universally “healthy” food. There’s only food that suits the person eating it. A cooling mung bean soup is a gift in August and a burden in February. Raw salads are wonderful for some constitutions and rough on others.

The governing principle is 辨证施膳, which means to differentiate the pattern, then apply the diet. This is exactly how TCM works.

This is a continuation of a new series where I’ll break the whole system down: the four natures, the five flavours, how to read your own constitution, and the soups that go with each. However, that’s more food therapy. There is a lens that a TCM medicated diet is very specific.

For example, for a perimenopausal woman who has blood deficiency and liver qi stagnation, I would recommend certain blood nourishing stews or soups, liver qi moving teas one week on and one week off, and spleen strengthening congee once a week with specific herbs. It’s not just a soup or tea. It’s scheduled.

This is a generalization of how teas can support TCM concepts for balanced health. This is not a substitute for medical advice or a diagnosis. Always consult your doctor or TCM practitioner first. 💛
