Busy but still broke!

For 7 years I thought a full diary meant I was doing well as a hair loss specialist.

It wasn’t until 2024 that I actually sat down, looked at my numbers properly, and realised I’d been undercharging every single mesh integration client for years. £200 here, £200 there and when you add it up it’s actually shocking 😳

The moment I fixed it, everything shifted. I dropped to 3.5 days a week and turned over £100k in my salon that same year.

Now I only work 1 salon day a week and still live comfortably.

I’m not telling you this to show off. I’m telling you because I took me 7 years getting there, and I don’t want you to do the same!

This is why I’ve added a dedicated pricing section with a pricing calculator into my training, so you don’t need to ask everyone else what they’re charging and guess your numbers.

Victoria, one of my students, used the pricing calculator and instantly realised she was undercharging by £300 per new fitting 🤯 That’s one tool, one afternoon and potentially thousands of pounds a year back in her pocket.

That dreaded message 😱 “Sorry to message you but…” 💔

I used to fit a mesh integration and hold my breath whilst I sewed the hairline, and sometimes I would think “that just doesn’t look right” but I couldn’t figure out what was going wrong.

Then that 2 week message would come and I knew what the complaint would be and my heart would sink!

I was sick of feeling like this and I was desperate to make my clients mesh integration last.

The time I nearly quit!

A client’s mum called that day I fitted her mesh integration to say her daughter didn’t like it and wanted it removed 💔

I was devastated. I asked her to give it the weekend and said I would check in. I expected her to message me over the weekend but she didn’t…

So I reached out. She was absolutely fine. She had washed it, it had settled, and she decided she loved it. 🎉 And she stayed as my client for four more years.

What I learned from that moment changed how I run my business.

Having a mesh fitted can be incredibly overwhelming, they look different, their head feels weird, everything feels unfamiliar, and for someone who has been struggling with hair loss, that emotional response can be intense.

It’s like wearing a new pair of shoes in a style you’ve never worn before, you feel unsure if you like them, they are a bit uncomfortable, it’s not until you’ve worn them in a few times and they mould to your feet, you decide they’re actually your new favourite pair!

That experience is now written into my terms and conditions. I will not remove a mesh integration within seven days of fitting. Not because I do not care..because I have learned that the first few days are not the right time to make that decision.

I work 1 salon day a week…

Three clients a day. Bills paid. Gym at 10am on a Tuesday. Nails done on a Wednesday. Slow mornings whenever I want them.

I am not going to pretend I earn more than I did when I had my salon, because I do not.

But I live better. I’m not@running around like a headless chicken, constantly angry at myself for forgetting things and feeling like I’m always chasing my tale.

This is because the work I do is high value, deeply meaningful, and built around my life rather than my work diary.

Mesh integration changed everything for me.

My clients are not trend chasers. I do not chase new clients every week. I do not fill my diary with back-to-back colour appointments & blowdrys just to hit my numbers.

My clients are not going anywhere. They book consistently, they pay a premium, and they genuinely need what I do.

That kind of client base means you can work less and still feel financially stable.

I work the days I choose, I finish when I want to finish, and I actually have a life outside of the salon.

Here are three signs your technique needs work and what they actually mean.

These are the most common issues I see when stylists come to me after training elsewhere or trying to figure it out on their own. None of them mean you are not capable. They mean you have not had the right guidance yet.

1. The top looks bulky - the hair should disappear, not sit raised on top of the clients head.
2. It keeps slipping back - Some slipping is normal and my Flatline Finish™️ technique is designed to compensate for a little slippage. BUT your clients mesh shouldn’t be slipping at week 2!
3. The hairline does not sit flat - This is the one your client sees every single morning, which makes the mesh integration look unnatural.

I always knew there had to be more to life!

I was so physically, spiritually and emotionally exhausted working in the salon 5 days a week. To the point I wanted to give hair up all together and it took me a year to fall back in love with it again!

We’re taught to take every client, taking breaks is lazy, 10/12 hour days are the norm, and feeling calm isn’t apart of the hair industry.

But i challenged those views, they are outdated, they are burning us all out and making us miserable!

YOU CAN in fact choose your hours, choose your clients, charge premium prices and have freedom and flexibility in your career!

You just need the right service, the skills and know how to market yourself.

And thats exactly what I teach in my academy!

I became the fixer…

I spent a lot of my younger years fixing things and fixing people, friends, boyfriends and in my salon I became the mesh integration fixer.

People would come to me from all over the UK so I could fix their hair loss system.

Which made me think there’s a real issue with the training that’s being provided!

When I decided to started teaching I realised I couldn’t run my salon and my training academy at the same time..one business had to give.

And call me crazy but I chose to close my 6 figure salon 🤯

I left the reliable stable income and went all in on my training academy because I knew I could have a bigger impact training and re-training hair loss specialists than I ever could working behind the chair.

Had it been a tough transition, absolutely!

But I’m always up for a challenge and I’m so passionate and fiercely determined about my mission nothing is going to stop me.

I would dread a mesh integration consultation…

I thought I needed to know everything about hair loss and mesh integrations and I would look stupid if I didn’t and no one would book with me.

Which is not the case! Being open with your client about being new takes a huge pressure off your shoulders. My tip is to read through the aftercare sheet with your client and make a notes of frequently asked questions, then answering them will become second nature.

Secondly, I had no idea how to price myself, i panicked and guessed my way through my first few years of pricing as a hair loss specialist.

Are you going to keep saying one day or are we actually doing this?

By this I mean, stop slaving away behind the chair for 10 hours to the point you need 30 mins alone time in your car before you go inside and spend time with your loved ones.

There’s got to be more to life this that, right?
