Yesterday I completed the Outlaw 70.3 Triathlon
I was really ill the week before with the flu. A temperature, sweating, coughing, headache, the lot. I wasn’t sure I was going to make it to the start line. But I decided to give it a go and not be upset with myself if I had to DNF. Somehow, I completed it.
The original goal, before the illness, was sub 5 hours. The new goal was to rid of any pacing and power strategies, go by feel and survive the thing. I was pleasantly surprised to finish in a reasonably respectable 5hrs and 17mins.
It felt really special having my family there and crossing the line with my eldest, whilst having the team and coaches cheering and willing me on.
I competed in Taekwon-do to win medals for my country, I compete now in triathlon for a sense of pride, overcoming adversity and to dig deep for a sense of accomplishment. The far from ideal circumstances meant I got to feel that adversity and accomplishment in a different way than I was expecting - but it felt equally as good. Huge thank you to everyone involved in the event and making it a day to remember.
