🌿 A positive step forward for mental health support 🌿

It’s encouraging to see more investment and focus being placed on making mental health support easier to access and closer to local communities.

The opening of new mental health centres represents an important move towards early intervention — helping people access support before they reach crisis point.

At Bristol Counselling and Psychotherapy, we believe that everyone deserves a safe space to talk, explore their experiences, and receive support tailored to their individual needs.

Mental health is not something we should only address when things become overwhelming. Early support, understanding, and compassionate care can make a real difference.

We welcome developments that help reduce barriers to accessing mental health services and hope this encourages more people to seek help when they need it. đź’š

Your mind isn’t meant to hold onto everything. 🌿

We often carry things that were never ours to keep: guilt, other people’s expectations, comparisons, and the pressure to justify our choices. Over time, these can become emotional clutter, leaving little room for peace, clarity, and self-compassion.

What if you gave yourself permission to let some of it go?

Keep what supports your wellbeing.
Keep what brings you peace.
Release what weighs you down.

Remember, protecting your mental health isn’t selfish—it’s essential. You don’t need to earn rest, explain your boundaries, or live according to someone else’s expectations.

✨ Today, ask yourself: What is one thing you can stop carrying?

Share your thoughts in the comments—we’d love to hear what you’re choosing to let go of. 💚

How do we get through what we go through?

There isn’t a shortcut through emotional pain. Healing isn’t about pretending you’re okay or forcing yourself to “move on.” It’s about gently turning towards yourself, one small step at a time.

✨ Pause – Give yourself permission to stop. You don’t have to have all the answers today.

📝 Write it down – Putting thoughts into words can help make overwhelming emotions feel more manageable.

💬 Talk it out – Whether it’s a trusted friend, family member or therapist, you don’t have to carry everything alone.

🤝 Reach out – Connection is one of the most powerful antidotes to suffering. Asking for help is a sign of courage, not weakness.

💚 Treat your body with care – Rest, nourish yourself, move gently and remember that your mind and body are deeply connected.

🌱 Have patience with yourself – Healing isn’t linear. Some days will feel easier than others, and that’s okay. Progress isn’t measured by how quickly you recover, but by how compassionately you meet yourself along the way.

Whatever you’re going through today, remember this: you have survived every difficult day you’ve faced so far. Keep taking one step at a time.

Some of the hardest battles are the ones nobody else can see.

When you’re living with depression, everyday tasks that others may take for granted can feel overwhelming. Showering. Replying to a message. Cooking a meal. Even getting out of bed can require more strength than most people realise.

This isn’t about laziness, weakness or a lack of motivation. Depression can drain your energy, cloud your thinking and make even the smallest decisions feel impossible.

If today all you managed to do was get out of bed, that’s enough. If you managed one thing on this list, that’s progress. Healing isn’t measured by productivity—it’s measured by continuing to show up for yourself, one small step at a time.

And if someone you care about is struggling, remember that compassion often means understanding that what looks “simple” to you may feel like climbing a mountain to them.

You don’t have to carry it all alone. Reaching out for support is a sign of courage, not weakness. ❤️

Which of these feels the hardest for you when you’re struggling? Let others know they’re not alone by sharing your experience below.

Three Hearts, One Home

Healing is not a straight road.
It is a house with every light left on,
where every version of me
still believes it’s waiting to be rescued.

My inner child
still checks the windows at night,
still mistakes silence for danger,
still reaches for a hand
that never learned how to stay.

My inner teenager
keeps a fire in their chest,
collecting every broken promise
like stones in a pocket,
asking the same question—
“Why wasn’t I worth protecting?”

And then there is me,
older now,
carrying both of them
like tired passengers
who cannot agree on where home is.

One begs me,
“Please don’t let us get hurt again.”

The other whispers,
“Don’t forgive. Don’t forget. Fight.”

While I stand between them,
hands full of yesterday,
aching for a tomorrow
that doesn’t require armor.

Some days,
healing looks like choosing peace
and feeling guilty for it.

Some days,
it looks like crying for a child
who never had the words,
and grieving for a teenager
who only knew anger
because anger felt stronger than helplessness.

But slowly,
I am learning
that I do not have to choose
between safety and justice.

I can build the safety
my child was denied.

I can honor the anger
my teenager carried.

And I can give my present self
the quiet she has been earning
for years.

Healing isn’t convincing
the child to stop being afraid,
or telling the teenager
to stop being angry.

It is sitting beside them both,
taking each trembling hand,
and saying—

“You don’t have to protect me anymore.”

“I am here now.”

“And I will not abandon us again.” 🩷

You can spend years becoming an expert at meeting everyone else’s needs… while quietly abandoning your own.

That’s what self-abandonment looks like.

It’s saying “yes” when your body is screaming “no.”
It’s silencing your feelings to keep the peace.
It’s ignoring your needs because you’ve learned that everyone else’s comfort matters more than your own.

For many of us, this didn’t start in adulthood. It began when love, acceptance, or safety felt tied to being agreeable, helpful, or “easy.” We learned to prioritize other people’s emotions over our own because it helped us feel connected or protected.

Then, as adults, something unexpected happens: guilt.

The guilt you feel when you set a boundary isn’t necessarily a sign you’re doing something wrong. Often, it’s a sign you’re doing something different. You’re choosing yourself in ways you weren’t taught were okay.

Healing from self-abandonment isn’t about becoming selfish.
It’s about rebuilding trust with yourself.

✨ It looks like:
• Honoring your limits without apologizing for them.
• Listening to your intuition instead of dismissing it.
• Resting without earning it.
• Speaking your truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.
• Remembering that your needs matter too.

Every time you choose yourself with compassion instead of guilt, you’re rewriting an old story.

You are not responsible for keeping everyone comfortable at the expense of your own well-being.

What boundary are you learning to honor in this season of your life? đź’›
