Someone asked me this week: 'If I could only do one thing right for my gums, what would it be?' My answer surprised her. Not the right toothpaste. Not the floss brand. Not even the rinse. The answer is: brush at night, not in the morning. Most people brush perfectly when they're fresh and have time. Then they collapse into bed without brushing. Bacteria multiply x6 during sleep. The night brush isn't a routine — it's the routine.

I'm ending my day with a thought.

Today I saw 4 patients. All 4 had gum recession. All 4 had tried Sensodyne. All 4 had gums that bled when brushing.

None of them knew their gums were 90% collagen.

None of them knew their body produces less of it every year.

None of them knew there was a way to feed that collagen directly.

Four women. Same problem. Same blind spot. Same system that never explained any of it to them.

That's why I do what I do.

Imagine the collagen in your gums like the foundation of a house.

When the foundation starts to deteriorate, the whole house becomes unstable. You can repaint the walls, mop the floors, replace the windows. Nothing changes. The foundation keeps crumbling.

That's exactly what happens with your gums. Your toothpaste cleans the surface. But the foundation — the collagen — disappears a little more every year.

Nobody fixes the foundation. Everyone repaints the walls.

A study from the University of Poznań in Poland, published in 2025, tested 200 patients with gum recession.

The group that received collagen applied directly to the gums showed measurable tissue regeneration in 12 weeks.

Not "slowed." Not "stabilized." Regenerated.

Why didn't your dentist tell you about this? Probably because they graduated before this research existed. It's not their fault. The system just doesn't update as fast as the science does.

My morning coffee. My office before patients arrive.

That moment is mine. 5 minutes of quiet before I meet women looking for answers.

Most of them aren't asking for a miracle. They just want to understand why nothing's working. And they want someone to tell them the truth.

I think back to my university training.

We were taught gums don't grow back. That recession is permanent. That the only option is a graft.

We said the same thing about brain cells. Science proved the opposite in the 1990s.

It makes me wonder how many other "certainties" are going to change in the next few years.

Think of the collagen in your gums as the foundation of a house.

If the foundation starts to deteriorate, the whole house becomes unstable. You can repaint the walls, wash the floors, replace the windows. It doesn’t change a thing. The foundation is crumbling.

That’s exactly what happens with your gums. Your toothpaste cleans the surface. But the foundation—the collagen—disappears a little more each year.

No one repairs the foundation. Everyone just repaints the walls.

Here’s something no one tells you about collagen capsules:
The stomach acid in your stomach breaks down 80% of it before it even reaches your gums.

Studies show that only 1 to 3% of oral collagen reaches the periodontal tissue.

You take collagen for your skin, nails, and joints. Your gums get almost none of it.

That’s why 6 months of capsules at $45 a month yield zero results for your gums.

A question I get asked a lot: “Is it too late for my gums?”

My answer is always the same: “It’s never too late. But you have to stop treating just the surface.”

Your gums can regenerate. You just have to give them the right nutrients in the right place. Not through your stomach. Directly.
