Grateful to have had the opportunity to make another expert contribution to , this time across two articles in their sleep dossier, written by .solomon. This October issue is out in stores now.

In 'Learning to let go', I speak about how common it is for people who have experienced trauma or anxiety to find their sleep affected, and the ways in which this can happen. EMDR therapy can help to process the experiences at the root of it.

In 'Getting back into the body', I share gentle, body-based ways to soothe your nervous system, such as bilateral audio or tapping, including the butterfly hug (as the pose in the first photo).

In my work as a therapist, I often see how hard it can be to think our way to calm, especially when our nervous system has been holding it together for a long time. Sometimes the way in is through the body instead. Ideally, we start practising these skills when we're feeling calm or settled, so they feel familiar when we need them most.

One thing I was keen to include: these tools are for soothing, not for working through traumatic memories on your own. Working through trauma needs adequate support.

I'm excited to share that my expert contribution is featured in the summer edition of , written by .solomon, out in stores now.

The piece explores why we tend to avoid stepping outside our comfort zone or being bold, the fear of getting it wrong, being judged, or not succeeding, and what it can mean to acknowledge that fear without letting it dictate our choices.

In my work as a therapist, and in my own life too, I've seen this play out: there's a part of us that feels afraid or vulnerable, but that's never the whole of us. There's also a part that feels confident, brave, and capable, and the two can sit side by side. We don't need to judge or dismiss the afraid part, but we can gently try to allow ourselves to tune into, and strengthen, the confident one.

You can read the full piece in this month's Psychologies Magazine. On the second photo, I am grabbing my own copy from M&S.
