⭐️ F I N A L T E R M of Daisy Birthing will be starting on Monday 20th Feb in Portishead. We also have 2 workshops running in March that you may like to consider ⭐️

Daisy Birthing classes are for mums to be only and offer yoga based movement, active birthing, breathing techniques, birth hypnosis and relaxation, alongside antenatal education. Whether it's your 1st, 2nd, 3rd (or more!) baby, it's a really supportive environment where you can meet other mums and relax as you learn.

Our Active Birth workshops are designed to give you and a birth partner the space you need to prepare together. They are held on a weekend morning and are really friendly, relaxed and informal. Please do get in touch if you'd like to hear more!

Posted • .birthnurse ✨ Save for when it’s birthing time!

Every provider and hospital is different, but a lot of places seem to do things according to policy or “because they’ve always done it that way”

That’s why there will be times during birth that you’re going to have to advocate for yourself.

Communication is KEY during both pregnancy and birth.

It’s important to start during your prenatal visits.

Practice speaking up and asking for what you want. If your doctor or midwife wants to perform certain procedures, get more information and then make a decision based on what works for YOU.

It can feel very difficult to advocate for yourself during labour.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1️⃣ You can always ask for more information. Never hesitate to ask questions!

2️⃣ If you need time to decide (and it's not a medical emergency), ask for privacy and time to discuss with your support person/people.

3️⃣Ask if interventions can wait until later.

4️⃣ Follow BRAIN when decision making - Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition and Do Nothing.

5️⃣You can decline any intervention.

6️⃣ It helps to be polite and respectful, but this isn’t always possible in the throes of labour!

7️⃣You can also ask your support person to speak for you.

8️⃣ Write out your birth preferences so that your team is aware of what you’ve decided ahead of time.

A majority of you polled said it was hard to speak up about your wishes during birth!

This is why we believe so much in the importance of prenatal education to help you feel empowered with knowledge so it's easier to self-advocate and feel like an active participant in your birth decision making!

Were you able to advocate for yourself during labour?
