For everyone who’s confused about what to eat for lunch, here’s a version of something I have most weeks. It’s quick and has a good range of nutrients.

What works for me might not suit you, because everyone has different goals, exercise levels, health conditions, and culture but here’s an idea.

🥔 Leftover potatoes when cooked and cooled turn into resistant starch, a fantastic food for your keystone beneicial gut microbes and a slower release source of energy.

🥬 There’s not much fibre in spinach (only 2g in half this whole bag!), although that’s not the only reason to eat vegetables!

🥬 You’ll get 3g of protein in this 120g of spinach, as well as your intake of vitamin K and A for the day.

This is 200g of cooked potatoes as a reference point.

👇 What quick meals do you have for lunch? Share your ideas below to help out with inspiration for anyone else.

If your IBS is only one part of a host of systemic symptoms there could be something connecting it all.

What is a low histamine diet and how to follow it

The role of the gut microbiome in histamine clearance

Could your digestive issues be caused by how the body holds itself together? Connective tissue conditions can change the speed of food through the gut, impact on digestion as well as a host of other impacts.

This week on the pidcast Inside Knowledge for people with IBS Alex Orfanides, osteopath and hypermobility expert, answers all my questions:

What is hypermobility and how would you know if this affects you?
How can connective tissue disorders like hypermobility Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) affect your digestion?
What lifestyle changes help if you have hEDS / HDS?

Thank you to Alex for a fantastic conversation, her passion for this topic is very clear and she's so well researched and knowledgeable on this topic.

Do you spend ages on the toilet before leaving the house? Or check where every toilet is before you go somewhere new?

These habits often start as ways to manage IBS. But sometimes they become so automatic that we never stop to ask whether they're actually helping. That doesn't mean you need to stop all your routines overnight. Sometimes these can also make your life much easier, allowing you to work, socialise or exercise.

Think about:

➡️ What am I worried will happen if I don't do this?
➡️ Is this helping me live my life?
➡️ Could I make this habit just 5% smaller?

Small experiments can teach you more than hours of worrying. Which one of these habits do you recognise in yourself?

A - Online research

B - sitting for too long

C - repeated ‘just in case’ trips to the toilet

D - feeling like supplements are your life

E - skipping meals to minimise symptoms

Gut issues affect 84% of people with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and IBS is the most reported digestive issue in this population.

So I was excited to speak to Alex from on the podcast this week. She's is SO knowledgeable about connective tissue disorders and really champions the cause for more understanding of this condition.

Alex has also written a book, Help! I'm Hypermobile out now.

Comment HABITS to read more on how you can refocus some unhelpful behaviours around using the toilet when you have IBS.

Most people with digestive issues have created some kind of routine that helps them feel a bit more in control. Abd most of these will be absolutely fine.

But if you have a habit that feels like it's eating into your day or taking up too much headspace, take a read of my blog post for tips on how to deal with this.
